Why does it take so long to process CHL

Bottom line of all this: Why would you expect anything to be done quickly where the government (local, state or federal) is concerned?

Maybe people have been spoiled by the driver license process. That is efficient.

When I moved to Texas and got a license, it took about an hour. The renewals were online and painless.

Nearly everyone has a driver license, so the pols get a lot of pressure to make the process work right.

Never thought of that. That is actually done relatively quickly (compared to a CHL). But having to take a number, sit down from 1-3 hours with all the dirty smelly people or stand in the green line (and hope you're not supposed to be in the yellow line all that time) just to get a new slip, maybe an eye test and a photo that should take no more than 5 minutes is comical to me.
