So, after I get this thing out of lay-away, how to I present it to him to make it a surprise? I cant wrap the thing in gift paper b/c he'd know right off what it was.Any ideas?

I thought about hiding it in my truck or my old bedroom at my parents' house and then just coming out with it and saying "hey dad,I bought this new gun and I decided I dont want it.Happy Birthday" Any better ideas?

My hubby bought me a .45GAP for my birthday last year,and I was standing right there at the counter.The store didnt have a problem with it.They said "ok its a gift".

Wrap a bow around the end of the barrel & present it to him. I don't think that you'll add anything to the gift itself by wrapping it, and you surely won't conceal what it is, so just slap on a bow & say "Happy Birthday!"

Eligibility doesn't determine whether or not it's a straw purchase. Whether the ultimate recipient is eligible or not, it's a "straw purchase" if the person filling out the 4473 isn't the "actual purchaser" of the firearm.

For example: you're at a store and you see a smokin' deal, but they've only got two left. You call your CHL-holding buddy and say, "I'm going to get one. Do you want me to pick the other one up for you?" To which he replies, "Sure, grab it, and I'll pay you for it tonight!"

That is a straw purchase.

Another example would be, if you're unable to attend the big gun show you'd been planning on attending, so you send money with your buddy, and tell him what to get.

Even though you're both perfectly legal to purchase, that is still a straw purchase.

Bona-fide gifts are not straw purchases.

I don't see it that way. IMHO, you bought it with your own money and then sold it to your buddy.

The legislative intent behind straw purchases is preventing an eligible person from purchasing a weapon on behalf of an ineligible person.

Dads been gone for several years now, enjoy your dad while you can thats a nice gift you are giving him for sure!

Your a good daughter. Want to babysit my daughter and maybe rub off on her? Teach her how to treat her old man? She's 18 months and a little cutie, but I'm biased.

I'm trying to enjoy my family for as long as they're here.My grandmother passed away after fighting a long fight with lung and brain cancer.After watching her go down hill and then losing her it really woke me up to the fact that my parents will be gone one day and I dont want to waste any precious time that I can manage to see them even though we're 120miles apart.
