It would be interesting to find out if it is true, or not, that they were licensed to carry in this state...
From the Dallas Morning News website:
Another man in that group was armed with a handgun and returned fire, though police said they do not think he hit Mr. Salinas. That man was licensed to carry a concealed weapon and was not injured, police said. (I've heard that he fired two times)

Thanks for the update...Very vague, but that is understandable...At first the story I saw said this person went back to their vehicle to retrieve the handgun they used...In this one it appears they are implying they had it on their person at the time they got involved at the scene...
Lots of lessons to be learned here I suppose...
One thing I am still trying to figure out here is that at the time the CHL got involved had all of the shootings (victims) been hit at that time, and the "shooter" had yet to turn the gun on himself??? Or had the officers who responded hadn't gotten there just yet???
Guess I got to go re-read it, but I'm not sure the DMN is getting this right in the first place...

What I can't figure out is that it sounds like the first civilian on site escaped with only have the shotgun brandishes at him or maybe shot at and missed. Why wasn't he warning the others who came up?
Of course maybe he went to ground and really didn't see the others. Must have been a pretty confusind situation. At least he had the presence of mind to call 911.

Fox 4 interviewed the first guy. He said his only explanation for not getting shot or shot at must have been angles. He pulled up beside the wrecked vehicle and noticed the barrel pointing straight at him, put it in gear, and moved away to a safe distance. He then went on to say after the police arrived, he ran around the backside of the squad car and yelled to a female police officer that he had a shot gun. By that time, it was pretty much too late.
At least, that's what he said for the camera. Who knows exactly what happened under duress.
