the man in the pickup truck pummeled into the back of....

I thought this was possibly the incorrect word to use.
When I think of pummeling (sp?), I think of someone giving a beatdown using fists.

The initial link on this thread doesn't mention the wearing/non-wearing of seat belts, but I guess because the pickup driver survived, he was wearing his.
CORRECTION: I shouldn't have stated "initial link on this thread". I meant the link at the bottom of this thread's page 1, which detailed the Katy crash.

However, the wearing of the seat belt did not allow him to recognize a big ol' 18 wheeler stopped on Katy Freeway.

Doesn't the Katy Freeway have, like 12 lanes, yet the pickup driver still mentioned to find a travel lane, or the shoulder, containing a major obstruction?

Sheesh.

Sheesh.
The Katy Freeway is in Texas not New York.

Sheesh.

BBYC:
I am well aware that the Katy Freeway is in Texas.

Note my correction just above your comment.

Yes, this thread has mostly been about the NYS crash, but a recent link detailed a Katy, Texas crash.

The crash on the Katy freeway did not mention seatbelt use however it appears that could have been the only thing that could have saved him.

I actually don’t see how he was still alive considering the entire passenger compartment is crushed.

Posters have pointed out the limo was not badly deformed. However, I’m thinking there was no seat belt use. Bodies hitting each other in a crash can cause a fatality on there own. I am also assuming there were not rows of seats but a long bench seat down either side of the limo.

A young woman I knew was killed in a crash. She was seat belted in the front seat. The rear passenger was not. That passenger struck her in the collision, killing the front seat passenger. The rear seat passenger was injured but survived.
