Then I'd pass on this animal, and get the Springfield or that Kimber...

You'll be much more happy with one of them...

You might even want to pass to those interested (through a PM) in who is selling this item...Someone may want to check it out...If the guy is still selling...

I don't really need it, but someone else may...You never know...
I am going to the gun show this weekend to see if i find a deal on that springfeild or if i can dig up a pre series II kimber. The seller of this 1911 is going to be at this gun show so i might just take a look at it

Why No?

Post by bpet »

I voted no for the following reasons.

First set of pictures and text description indicate lots of tinkering and potential abuse (scratches on right side front of frame)

Refinish looks to be low quality (could be picture quality)

Picture of slide seems to show longitudinal crack/wear

Sounds like owner had a lot of 1911 parts left over from other projects and decided to build a pistol out of what was left.

Most important; I don't buy unless I have a chance to inspect (closely).

Just my preference - Others may disagree[/quote]

I voted no because of what I think I see in this picture. That looks like a crack running along the underside of the firing pin block, and that makes me wonder what unusual stresses have been placed on the working parts of this firearm. I haven't disassembled that many 1911s, but I've never seen anything like this on one that had proper care given to it.

There are some cosmetic things that might bother some...Wouldn't bother me...

This would not be a very hard decision if it were me...

Don't let a few around here know where this deal nah, ya hear...

I have a few reservations about it such as the replaced slide which is strange in my opinion, I would have done a trigger job first.

then the rust on the grip screws bothers me a bit.... what else is rusted?????

I dont think i will buy it unless i shoot about 100 rounds with out a Falure
Well, if anything it looks like someone liked to tinker with it some...

Rust can be fixed, those screws weren't treated, so that may be the extent of a little oxidation on there...But you have very valid concerns...

Not sure how far you are willing to go with investing $425...But from what I see, I don't see much of a problem that can't be addressed, and it might be kinda fun to see what it can do for you...

Others will certainly disagree with me, and it won't hurt my feelings at all (there's a ton of knowledge here way above my paygrade)...If it gives you too much heartache, I would let this bird fly...No need to pull hairs on something that someday you might find a better deal on something else anyway...

Not to hijack the thread or anything - but I carry my Sig IWB w/o a t-shirt underneath and after just one day the grip screws and the mag release on the left side both start to get a little orange color to them. Anyone have any suggestions?
