In my early to late 20's I worked at DFW airport fueling passenger planes. Being young and dumb I failed to wear hearing protection a good deal of the time. The APU on air planes is extremely high pitched. My ears ring none stop and have for years.

Apropos, I just learned about these the other night: https://www.nuheara.com/learn-more/. In their FAQ section, they say that their products are not OSHA approved, and I could not find any info on the sight about any specific hearing rating or dB reduction, but they do fit into the ear canal with a foam earplug type of feet, and they do block background noise while allowing voices through. They also say that the product can help with tinnitus. MSRP is $499, but I’m seeing refurbished sets on eBay for around $250-$300.

I doubt that they’re as effective for hearing protection as a set of electronic ear muffs, but there are plenty of other social or work situations where these might be useful.
