Well since you didn't specify if it was my primary or back up I said 2-5 seconds. If I need a weapon in my weak hand I'm going for the BUG in my left front pants pocket. Trying to draw from a holster at 4:00 will cause you to sweep your self with your muzzle with the hand that has the worse muscle memory.
I don't want to get shot, especially by myself - - - with my own gun.

It shouldn't?

Not trying to.
Its just that I can think of a few defensive scenarios where a person might have his/her arm incapacitated prior to being able to draw. Just wondering where this would leave everyone.
Its of little concern to me.... because I carry "cross-draw", but I do want people to think about the subject a bit.
You might not be able to use your strong side arm for other reasons, (Recent surgery, injury, arthritis, etc..) where/how would you carry then?

I carry strong-side hip/right-handed IWB at 4:00, so a weak-handed draw would be difficult and slightly unsafe due to the potential muzzle sweep...hopefully, I'll never need to resort to this in a defense situation.

Hi BK,
There have been two posts now expressing concerns of "covering" ones self (or potentially doing so) when drawing weak hand from the strong side... or perhaps sweeping others.
What am I missing?
If the weapon is properly drawn...the muzzle will remain pointed at the ground until it clears your body and a good grip can be achieved.
I hope it doesn't sound as if I am "correcting" anyone here, (I am here to learn), its just that I don't understand what part of a weak hand draw presents a covering issue.

Out of my Tucker at 3:00, the 2-5 second. Just over the 2 second mark.
Miami Classic 3.5 most of the time. I still fumble the thumb break occasionally. Then it is just over the 5 second mark.
Flint, you are a good teacher. Thank you.
You guys wanna see quick & smooth. Watch him. But you better watch fast.
I can put it back & resnap in under 10 seconds most of the time. If the snap gives a little trouble, weeeelll 12 or so.

In the Air Force they made us cops start qualifying through a tactical pistol course where we gotta draw from a drop-down holster with our weakhand during one level of it and it wouldnt be that hard if the holster didnt have 50 bagillions layers of retention.
I can do it in like 2-3 seconds now but the first time was embarassing.

Is this the rig you got about a yr ago?quidni wrote:Cross draw does have a bit of an advantage that way - I haven't timed myself, but I can actually do the "cavalry draw" with my weak hand and have the muzzle on target a bit faster than I can right-handed. My favorite holster is a right-handed pancake holster with only a slight cant, worn "backwards" on my left hip.bauerdj wrote:Somewhat to my suprise I can not reach my weapon in its usual carry location with my weak side hand. It shouldn/t really be that much of a suprise to me as my range of motion is limited by arthritis. Extra circumference in the waist area does not help either. I may need to rethink carry position especially since I think current position is contributing to hp pain. I may expierament with cross draw.

If so I was impressed when you posted the Pics.
Gents this little lady hides a big gun w/ a very light cover garment.

I am assuming (no comment stevie) strong hand broken. The only way for me to reach it is unbuckle my belt and pull it through until the weapon drops 30-45 seconds at best.
Pull my BUG from left back pocket, 2-3 seconds.
With this information I pick # 2.
Thanks Flint. Learned a valuable leason with this one. And looked stupid doing so.
