I went to my local range today. Shelves are usually chock full of guns and ammo. Shelves were more than half empty of almost everything. Hunting shotguns were still plentiful. Ammo shelf was also practically empty of all types of range ammo. They said Academy is cleaned out and people on Facebook here are reporting the same. I seem to remember all the ranges having similar policies during the last scare.

We used to have a policy of keeping ammo in stock for all guns we had for sale except shotguns, especially the odd calibers, prices reflected that ammo and we gave it with the gun when sold a box, that policy brought many smiles.

Just a couple of thoughts.

In these hard times membership counts. Sam's Club isn't gonna sell you toilet paper, Pearland Gun Club won't let you shoot and Shoot Smart isn't giving up their ammo without a membership. A lot of businesses reserve the right to serve who they want and refuse those they don't.

Funny that the ammo they are running out of is the cheap range stuff, and not the expencive self defense or hunting loads. When the poop hits the fan, I want to have the most effective and accurate ammo, not necessarily the most. After all, how many times will I get to shoot back?

You need to check popular online ammo sites. Most are out of the cheaper bulk ammo. Only the high end SD ammo remaining on most. Sites like Midway and Brownells are less impacted as they’re typically more expensive for large quantities, that keeps the value seekers away but only for a time. All other sites are noting an extended lead time (5-10 days) for shipping due to the current rush/panic on ammo.

Heck I was looking at ordering more 9mm bullets last night for reloading as I’m down to probably 2k but my usual places were out of my preferred 147gr rounds.
Well, like I said, I personally checked TargetSports for both 5.56 and 12 gauge. Yes, they had ammo....but for instance, American-made M193 and M855 seemed to be either sold outer considerably marked up, while Prvi Partisan 55 grain "M193 clone" ammo was still available. Shotgun ammo was available, but not the Federal Flitecontrol I’m most interested in. Sgammo was sold out of Flitecontrol #1 Buck. I admit that I didn’t so an exhaustive and thorough survey of other popular ammo vendors.... just a quick check....mainly because I’m already good to go. I could stand to have a little more 12 gauge, but I have sufficient for now unless this is the end of the world....which it’s not. One can always find room on the shelves for more 9mm, 5.56, and .308; but that’s a want, not a need for me.

I probably won’t buy any more ammo until this insanity blows over.

1. You can’t eat it.
2. You can’t eat TP.
3. I have a shower wand and soap.
4. I can eat food.
5. Ergo, buy more food.
That’s some funny stuff there!!! "rlol"

One of the people I support on Patreon is John Mosby if the Mountain Guerrilla blog. He said in a post the other day that he keeps a couple hundred rounds of SD ammo on hand for his and his wife's 9mm carry guns, and about 5000 rounds of NATO ball. But, he also pointed out that everybody he ever shot with 124 grain 9mm NATO ball over the course of his spec ops career is still dead today. I’ve got much the same situation. I don’t anticipate being in a gunfight, but I’ve got room in the shelves for a lot of ammo, and ball ammo is cheap. Might as well....

Just ordered 2000 of 9mm ball.
I also keep some SD for carry and home defense but like to have stock of ball for practice and monthly matches AND, just in case the neighbors might need some.
