I'm glad your family is ok, Beiruty.
What a horrific tragedy! AN is nothing to screw around with - why do people never learn this??
Cause the ruling elite are corrupt politicians who made billions and tolerated a militia more powerful than the Lebanese official Army.
Most likely a huge shipment of ammo/explosives was targeted, and no one would dare to admit that fact.
A very sad day for Lebanon.

It is sickening that in these difficult days a city and civilians would be attacked. A terrible and terrifying war crime that the attackers were almost certainly hoping to avoid blame. Sad and shocking.

AP has some new photos
I estimate the crater as 400ft diameter.

This is a very good angle, you can see the fire, the fireworks, and shortly the rain of glass people experienced.

Continued prayers for your family and friends still in Beirut.
Just stunned. Horrible seeing the various videos of the blast. I can't imagine having to experience it.
Governments all around the world are filled with corrupt politicians who make themselves millionaires/billionaires on the backs of the people.

I know that there is probably no death penalty in Lebanon, but what did the PM mean when he said the officials responsible "would pay the ultimate price?". What about his part?

He is likely expressing the outrage felt by the populace and on a personal level. He no doubts wishes he could effectively prosecute those guilty up to and including public execution. However this material is proven to be a preferred source utilized by the group who holds more power than the offical Lebanese military, I am doubtful that those truly responsible will be held accountable in any fashion.
I imagine that the port authorities will be held accountable, fined and imprisoned for public display.

It is all blah, blah, he would resign and take no action. Or, her would be killed in huge bomb too.
He is my professor and I knew him personally on daily bases from 1986-94.

Thanks a lot for your best wishes and warm feelings. I spoke with my wife's uncle on the phone. He is at home recovering, but feels like a beat up. He has broken ribs and other minor fractures. No other direct family members were hurt. My Brother and his wife were near the seaport 20 mins earlier and just as they are arrived home, the big bada boom happened.
He is still in shock as how himself and his wife survived the explosion being just few miles away.

Here is the best video so far supporting the theory of an air attack. The sound of supersonic plane/missile is can be clearly heart few seconds before the explosion. This is the first attack, resulting in the first small explosion of the ammo depot. There is another video that may show the second attack wave.
Most likely the couple taking video did not make it, but I am not certain.
