Re: Nevada Rancher Standoff
First fine or not fine doesn't really matter when you are talking facts and law. Do you want lawyers to advise you or what the law should be or what it is. Two I called the tax thing before the case even went to court because there is established precedent for it. While I wish it would go away I didn't stick my head in the sand because of what I wanted to happen. Finally the Dred Scott may also not be what I would want but it helped drive the 13th,14th, and 15th amendment. You would also have a great argument for a later court overruling that decision because of the known unethical behavior of some of the judges and Buchanan during the case. In addition while I am in awe of the constitution it just doesn't cover everything and it wasn't meant to. They were required to make compromises in it that are unacceptable to us here and now. Because something is unacceptable to a person doesn't automatically make it unconstitutional.baldeagle wrote:The naivete is astounding. I'm sure you're fine with that too. After all, the court has ruled.
They also ruled in the Dred-Scott case, if you will recall, and I'm pretty sure the majority of Americans would say that ruling was wrong.
As an aside do you want a popularity vote on constitutional rights now? That misses the point in my opinion.

I get it now. Sam Houston and his fellow Texians should have complied with Mexican law and court rulings instead of making trouble.
Re: Nevada Rancher Standoff
I wouldn't say so. In fact when the settlers started moving in Mexico was a republic. Santa Anna overturned the Govt and became a dictator so any social contract was broken, IMHO. If BO does the same you can bet I wouldn't be waiting for what a court told me. But this is not that.bayouhazard wrote:I get it now. Whoa!
This thing reeks of Reid and it gets stinkier and stinkier.
The county sold this land? So was Bundy paying the right entity for grazing rights?

The land the county sold has no connection to the BLM managed land except how it effects the habitat of the desert tortoise.Jim Beaux wrote:Whoa!

I'll explain it to you. " Well it isn't stealing when you go to court and get a judgement saying you can take the cattle." with out the little "now is it?" question at the end. Instead of attempting to be clever and cute and provocative perhaps you could work on your spelling, grammar, punctuation and sentence structure.EEllis wrote:That isn't a poke. How else can you say it. It might be all kind of other things but it just is not stealing.puma guy wrote:I don't appreciate you condescension one bit and find it highly offensive. The BLM is extremely cagey in all of the goings on for property under their care and projects in the area. I have read the ENN project was dropped last year, which I believe was planned for this land. What ties much of the land and projects together is the regional mitigation strategy, which I mentioned in an earlier post. There's some information here that may help in understanding the importance, for energy projects (and to BLM), of the Gold Butte land where Bundy grazes his cattle.Jim Beaux wrote:How do you know this?EEllis wrote:The land the county sold has no connection to the BLM managed land except how it effects the habitat of the desert tortoise.Jim Beaux wrote:Whoa!

If BO does the same? We used to be a nation of laws. Now we have a President who ignores the law and does whatever he wants. He ignores immigration law. He uses the IRS to harass his political appointments. He ignores criminal violations of the law when they are committed by people he supports. We have a lawless Attorney General. A law breaking former IRS Commissioner. A President who is ignoring the Constitution and making "law" through Executive Order. He's worse than Santa Anna ever hoped to be.EEllis wrote:I wouldn't say so. In fact when the settlers started moving in Mexico was a republic. I have to ask; for some of you still sitting on the fence, what will it take for you to wake up? If the President was a Republican, the media would be screaming bloody murder and the Democrats would be demanding impeachment. Is this behavior really acceptable simply because he's a Democrat?

Please be aware that dictators do not usually come out and say they are becoming that. It is much more quiet and insidious. Our social contract with the govt is the constitution BO has broken that in so many ways and so many times it is would be a joke if it was not deadly serious. Right now it is simply a question of how far we the people will let him go. How much is our president allowed to break the social contract before it is all lost. I hope it will be possible to do this by non violent representative means. It is a slim chance, but the alternative is as horrible as a bypass or chemotherapy so I keep hoping it is still possible. I think the next two years will be very telling.

Wake up to what? Sure I dislike BO but he will be gone soon enough. There is an ebb and flow in society and honestly I think things are slowly moving in the correct direction.baldeagle wrote: I have to ask; for some of you still sitting on the fence, what will it take for you to wake up?
