Sorry never been to motherjones site, but I have listened to all of the 911 calls that I believe have been released and I haven't heard anything supporting who approached who. I guess that's because all of the released calls, that I've heard, were placed either after the fight started or shots fired.

SANFORD — Sanford city commissioners have voted "no confidence" in police Chief Bill Lee Jr., who has been publicly lambasted for his department's handling of the fatal shooting of Miami teenager Trayvon Martin.

Commissioner Mark McCarty made the motion to fire the chief, who has been on the job just 10 months. Mayor Jeff Triplett and Commissioner Velma Williams voted with the majority.

A bit of a rush to judge?

This was clearly a bad shoot, he should not of followed him, he should not of killed hime. I hope this guy rots in jail. He makes all the responsible CHLs look bad.

I'm not surprised people are calling for "justice" instead of a trial.

After all, you yourself have already decided he's guilty without such a silly thing as a jury trial, why be surprised others feel the same way?

Clearly? So you've seen conclusive evidence no one else (including police and prosecutors) have seen?

I agree this looks bad and likely will result in a conviction of some sort, but there is no conclusive evidence of that YET.

Florida's law, just like Texas', allows an instigator to "back down" from a confrontation and then still claim self defense if the other person does not stand down as well.

Florida Section XLVI 776.041 Use of force by aggressor.—The justification described in the preceding sections of this chapter is not available to a person who:
(1) Is attempting to commit, committing, or escaping after the commission of, a forcible felony; or
(2) Initially provokes the use of force against himself or herself, unless:(a) Such force is so great that the person reasonably believes that he or she is in imminent danger of death or great bodily harm and that he or she has exhausted every reasonable means to escape such danger other than the use of force which is likely to cause death or great bodily harm to the assailant; or
(b) In good faith, the person withdraws from physical contact with the assailant and indicates clearly to the assailant that he or she desires to withdraw and terminate the use of force, but the assailant continues or resumes the use of force.

A "legitimate news site" being one that provides objective coverage of events in an attempt to discover or reveal the truth about them? If so, there are none. There may be some things that aren't important enough to a political narrative for the media to shape the truth, but there are no "news" sources that don't use the power of their voices to promote an agenda. On an issue like this shooting the media is in virtual lockstep, and they're going to milk it for all it's worth to promote their anti-self-defense, anti-gun, and racial identity agendas. It also allows them to whore for the Obama campaign because they can show how "concerned" his administration is and how they will bring "change" and "justice" to America.

Let me ask you this, have you ever heard Mike Tyson speak? He was the biggest, baddest, toughest heavyweight boxing champ on Earth at on time, and after every fight he opened his mouth and a 9-year-old girl spoke (maybe he swallowed her and let her speak for him? ).

All joking aside, any layman's opinion of what they believe a particular voice under distress sounded like in comparison to non-stressed voices they've previously heard is ludicrous. John Wayne might sound like Michael Jackson if he thought his life was truly in danger and was screaming desperately for help.

Of course, we've never heard John Wayne scream because his life could never actually be in danger (unless Chuck Norris was around ).

Whither this guy was legally right or wrong, I hope all of you at least realize that he made some bad choices which have now brought national attention and have the potential to damage each of us who lawfully carries and does not make bad decisions.

All who carry have a responsibility to others who carry, who also have the responsibility. The right to carry was hard-won with a cost to many who fought the battle before us, and to us who have to protect it for the future. I will not have good feelings for any of our fellowship who callously or carelessly endangers the right to carry.

I may end up defending them from a legal standpoint, but I will not be made to feel good about it.

The two witnesses who were at the home that Martin was shot at (in the backyard) state that Zimmerman was sitting (straddling) a face down Martin immediately after the shot was fired…..240lbs man sitting on the back of a 140lbs teen doesn’t sound like self defense to me but you draw your own conclusion…

Autopsy would state the entrance and exit point of the bullet if any. After the shot is taken, GZ could have stood up and then was seen. Why in the world he had to shoot someone laying down, face down?

Even in the precense of Chuck Norris, John Wayne would not have been in danger...I can only imagine them to be natural allies of the finest kind...of course, its probably best they weren't together, the planet might not have been able to handle that much raw power in one place!
