Just thought I would register and give the results of my attempt to obtain "the license".
Like many, I had not recieved a pin after two months. I finally emailed and recieved the pin in their "response". No other information was given. I never called, but was very tempted. I just felt it wouldn't help me to upset the admin folks. They hold the power.
The good news is the plastic showed up today, although my status still showed processing application. A nice surprise for a change
Best of luck to you. Now if I could remember were I put that darned pistol I would take a wally walk.
class date: 2/9/08
Mailed Application: 2/12/08
DPS Rcv'd Application: 2/16/08
PIN Rcv'd: 4/15/08

60 days - not even entered into the system; assume at least another 60 minimum to get through process, but will in all likelihood stretch to 180+.
SURVEY: WHO CURRENTLY HOLDS THE RECORD FOR THE LONGEST WAIT? (Let's assume you are absolutely positive you have a clean, I mean spotless, record, and that DPS used all your original documents without any follow-up)
I think I saw 180 days ....

one only needs to check the website once a day. do it first thing in the morning, they update at midnight.
i came this conclusion because i stayed up til eleven forty-five one night and checked before i went to bed. then i checked at seven the next morning and lo and behold there i was glorious as could be, application completed. though i feel your pain and need to check ninety times a day. i waited 94 days for mine, shorter than some, longer than others but grueling none the less.

I'm on day 109 (as of 12 MAY 08), with 3 speeding tickets like 6 years ago (all taken care of btw), only lived at 3 address all my life. so I'm on my way towards setting the long wait. Chas said he knew one person he used to work with got hers at 151 dyas, so I'm gonna call that the goal not to hit.

Well finally the plastic is in hand (wallet).... I am up and out. Keep the faith, ladies and gents. Just when you think there is nothing going on, you'll get a nice and rather plain-looking envelope in the US Mail and there you have it. Looking forward to...well, just going to work. But with a new bud.
Recap:
10JAN2008 completed online app
18JAN2008 completed course
20JAN2008 mailed paperwork to DPS
21JAN - 02APR status online as "packet sent to applicant"
07APR received letter stating that the "special condition" I applied under (military) necessitated documentation that I did not provide. I do not remember seeing ANYthing about providing military documentation, however I may have overlooked that...still checking, but anyway... Letter stated that a current military ID and a copy of my 2008 orders was needed.
08APR I complied and sent a certified letter with copies of both my ID (front and back) and my current orders.
10APR status online as "incomplete documentation - detailed letter sent to applicant"
15APR freaked out at what "certified letter" really means; sent regular post with credentials to Austin
21APR checked online; status "Processing Application"
12MAY plastic arrived in mail!!!!!
...just about four months, door-to-door, with a little paperwork hiccup in between...

Checked the website this morning and what do you know. Application Completed - license issued or certificate active. Now I just have to wait for the plastic and then off to Wally-World.
Feb 22 – Application received by DPS.
Mar 13 – Status changed to Processing Application.
May 13 - Application Completed - license issued or certificate active

WOO HOO Finally managed to get the ellusive Application Complete

I thought this status was just a myth.
However, I'm going to save most of the smileys until I get the plastic in hand, in case this is all just a dream (if I don't get it, it turns into a nightmare).

Mailed application 2/25
DPS received 3/03
processing application
called about status 5/09 and was told they were"finishing up" my background check.
hope this implies that I don't have to wait much longer.

I made a call today and spent around 20 minutes on hold. I got a very nice gentleman who told me that my application has been approved and they are waiting to get my plastic back from the department who makes them and I should be getting it shortly. However the website still shows processing app. I guess it is true that the people who are responsible for entering the data in to the website are behind. For those of you out there who are under 60 days or have not received a pin I suggest you wait till after the 60 day mark to call . When you do speak to someone find out what day your packet was received by the CHL unit. This will give you and idea of how long the delay is for the data entry group. In my case it was about 3 weeks.

I am at about 60 days since they received my application and still not entered in system. They are getting further behind with each passing week. At this rate it will soon be a year long process.
The problem with "gubament" workers is that once they have an excuse to shirk, they will milk it for all its worth.
