Finally. DPS received my application on July 19, and this morning my on-line status has just changed to "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active". So hang in there, July applicants.

All the best,

J.R.

I finally gave up today (day 158) and after yet another fruitless call to DPS, wrote a nice short letter to my State Representative and State Senator.

I don't expect it to have any effect at all (especially if the "one person doing all the background checks for Harris County" stuff is true), but at least it makes me feel better.

Class: June 28th
Sent Packet: July 5th
Packet Received: July 8th
PIN received: August 12th
Still Processing: December 11 (day 158)

Hang in there

I am sorry you are having to wait so long. I hope it comes through soon. Go to the range and practice. Also carry around the house so you get used to the gun and how it need to be hidden.

It is worth the wait you're almost here!

Got a call from Wendy in State Representative Bevery Wooley's office yesterday.
She said that there were a number of people who had contacted them about excessive delays in CHL processing.
Supposedly someone from DPS will be contacting me this week. They've been asked to expedite the processing of my background check and application.
Wendy said that if I don't hear from them by next Monday to give her a call back.

UPDATE: Just got a call from Heather (?) at the DPS. "I have your license here in my hand, and am sending it out today!" She said "We were missing some background check information and had to contact a representative(?) to get it, but everything's done." I think it was more along the lines of "my email to my state representative kicked things into gear".

I told her that I understood about the delays due to application volumes and the hurricane, and that I appreciated the phone call.

Class: June 28th
Sent Packet: July 5th
Packet Received: July 8th
PIN received: August 12th
Hurricane Ike letter: late September
Emailed State Senator & Representative: December 11th
Callback from State Representative's office: December 15th
Callback from Texas DPS, "License ready, going out today": December 16th
Online Status - Still Processing: December 16 (day 163)

My Story:

I still have not even had my application processed due to an error :mad5 . I had missing gaps in my work history because of a break I took from work when starting school (only one semester). So all I had to do was fill in that I was a non-working student during that time. Okay, I'll take the blame; I should have known... :headscratch

When I sent off my application I was warned about the horror stories and the CHL processing back-log so I decided not to even worry about checking the status until I was notified of a problem or I received my plastic :waiting: . DON'T MAKE THIS MISTAKE!!! :nono: I never received a letter from DPS about the missing work history. My pin number was sent to me, but the post office returned it to DPS, thus I never received the pin. If they get a return to sender, they forget about it and do not try contacting you further. :banghead:

FINALLY!!! I received my first contact from DPS in the first week of October :cheers2: . There was an error with my finger prints, which from what I have read is quite common. I did the FAST prints and sent them in. For all I knew, this was my only error, and only attempt at contact. Again, I decided not to worry about checking the status because I knew there was a back log. It wasn't until I found this forum and started reading that I realized something had to be wrong. :grumble

About a week ago I decided to hunt down my pin and call anyone I could to get an up-to-date status check. 12/16 is when I found out about the incomplete application due to work history. The first person I talked to last week failed to tell me this; it took a second phone call to get to the bottom of it.

Current status: In jeopardy of having my application terminated because I failed to respond within 90 days of the first letter that I never received. Nevermind that I responded to the second letter (appearantly it's a separate issue). As of now, it has not been terminated. Last night I emailed my state representative, state senator, and Governor Perry. Maybe that will help. Did I mention I'm also in Harris County? I'm guessing maybe Feb. until I get my plastic...

I know now that I should have been on these guys from the start, so maybe I'm to blame...Anyone else have similar stories?

The class was presented very well and I think he instructed in a way that kept verybody's attention for an entire 10 hour period. This was a tough task and he came through with flying colors!
I'm not in the July '08 class, but I wanted to echo the endorsement for Dave. Dave is my brain!
