That cracked me the heck up.

The Wal-mart in Lavon is usually pretty dusty in the ammo-shelf region. Unless it's hunting rifle ammo, there's not much to be seen. Evidently hoarders pick it clean every delivery day.
Where is the Wal-Mart in Lavon? I know there's one in Wylie, but... :headscratch
Yeah, I meant Wylie.

Now they're about to open one in Sachse 5 minutes down 78 from the one in Wylie. Makes no sense.

Mine too as we probably frequent the same stores. A friend told me that he found some at Bass Pro Shop last week, but I never made it in there to check for myself.

On a better note, there has been enough 9mm and .45 100 rounders in my local Wal-mart to go in and buy it when I want and not just when I see it.

Dicks Sporting Goods

1400 rds of Remington Golden Bullet for $70 + tax...

Was in their store flier in the DFW Sunday paper... and they seem to have a decent supply.
The store here in Irving had over a dozen on the shelf today.

Dicks north Fort Worth had quite a few federal .22 50 count boxes (didn't get a price) and probably 40 winchester white box 9mm boxes for $26 each.

Last two times I've been in Cabela's, they've had a good amount of 50/pk Blazer .22 for about $7 ea. guess I've just gone by at the right time.

Any good leads on 9mm practice ammo at a good price?

I was at Academy at 59 and Sweetwater (Sugar Land) on Friday. They had 22 LR on hand in plentiful quantities. American Eagle and two flavors of Aguila (which oddly enough means Eagle in Spanish). They were only selling 2 boxes to each customer (50 rounds per box) and I was alone so I bought two at $2.19 each.

My wife and I were back in there yesterday and they still had some. We each bought 2 boxes at $2.19 each.

It's behind the gun counter.

This may be a sign the 22 LR panic is coming to an end.

I am still getting the chills when I see 22LR is priced at 10c/rd. Ooch. It is used to be 2c-3c max few years ago.

I still see it on line at ~17c per round (500 round brick = $85.00).

This American Eagle was ~4.4c per round (50 round box for $2.19).

Best price I've seen in a long time.

Just got a 1400 round Bucket O' Bullets at Academy yesterday for $64.99. 4.6 cents per round.

I'm pretty sure in the late 60's they were less than a penny apiece for a box of 50. I seem to remember somewhere that sold them loose for a penny apiece. Then again, it could all be hallucinations supplied by the aliens to mess with me.

I'm trying to figure out how to post it, but the Peters Jan 2 1964 dealer catalog price for .22LR HV was .61 per box and retail was .80 box ($12.20/M). High Velocity .22 LR HP was .68/box dealer cost and retailed for .90/box.We sold mostly Peters .22 ammo in the 1960's and 70's. I seem to recall we sold it for maybe about 70-75 cents a box, but ran it as a low loss leader for .38 to .44 box/50. We had 24 stores, so I'm sure we got a break, but probably no more than 10%. As a side note we sold most popular firearms at or slightly above wholesale with the hope we could sell ammo, scope and accessories which had a much better markup.

The Internet tells me that $0.80 in 1964 is the equivalent of $5.93 today. That works out to the equivalent of 12 cents a round. Maybe it wasn't as dreamy back then as we remember.

Yeah I used to tell people for a long time that guns and ammo didn't really keep up with inflation until the last decade or so. I found a 1966 distributor cost for Western Super X .22LR. Carload price delivered was .52/bx and .541 lesser delivered. As much ammo as we bought we probably got distributor price.
Before the big problems we have now .22 shells were a bargain.
