I too got a call from a very nice lady by the name of Melinda Driscoll with the CHL department in Austin. I'm not sure if it was in response to my email to my Rep or not as my Reps (Mike Jackson) only response to me was a form letter saying if I wanted a written response I needed to snail mail him.

Anyway, MS. Driscoll told me that everything was in order and once they have the background back they would issue my CHL. Since I'm in Harris county I asked about the backlog and she said that there is one girl that does the background checks and that she has made great strides in getting caught up. Admits they're not there yet (caught up) but making gains every day and have been improving the time line. Gave me her phone number to call her back if I don't see a change in status in the next few days.
What stood out to me during this phone conversation was not once was I offered an excuse. I respect that.

Well now I am just awaiting the printing of the license and waiting and waiting. I know this has been discussed before but I am amazed that it takes this long to print a CHL. They can print a drivers license in a day how does it take weeks to print a CHL? Oh well at least it will be here some day.

I just recieved an Incomplete Application, due to not having a complete 5 years of residential history and a missing city on my job experience. I called and Harris County is still performing my background check. Anyone know what the turn around is once you've sent back the missing info?

Usually DPS claims that any incomplete info can and will reset the clock.

Today is day 79 for me and day 85 for one of my co-workers. We both live in Harris County. I have emailed Senetor Mike Jacksons office and they contacted the DPS and I even received a call from the DPS saying they are just waiting on the county clerks office in Harris County to send them my background check. I guess thats all I can do so its just a wait and see game now. Anyone out there past 80 days?

I'm out past 80 days and I was also "expedited" But I was just notified that my license is now "awaiting printing" Based on others experience here it can take another couple of weeks once it goes to print.
I know that won't make you feel any better but one day it will get here.

Not to be left out in the cold...I emailed DPS and did not hear back from them so I made a call to the DPS and was told that my app was processing. I asked why it was taking so long and she said ever since Jan 09 they have seen an increase in applications. Gee, I wonder why? Meanwhile an email response came back saying " We are currently awaiting the printing of the license. Thank you for your continued patience." By the look at all the posts I may still have 30 days or more to wait.
1/20/09 Online Application w/payment
1/24/09 CHL Class taken
2/5/09 Pin received and packet sent
2/10/09 DPS received packet
05/01/09 Waiting printing of the license
xx/xx/09 Plastic in hand.
