Is there any reason why I shouldn't shoot them?

If it were mine I would probably want to hang onto them as curios. How old are they? Maybe they have some kind of value beyond plinking.

I looked them up as Olin Corporation. I came up with this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olin_Corporation" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

A guy behind the counter at the Grapevine Academy told me he has an XD and the Monarch shoots well in it. I haven't verified that, however.

I haven't had any problems with the Monarch ammo in either of my 1911's or my 92FS. The Wal-Mart Blazer Brass on the other hand is real dirty and I get lots of FTE and FTF.

I really don't know. Back in the day when I was still active duty I could have looked up the lot number and come up with a year of manufacture. I suspect they are old but probably more like the 50's or 60's.

Maybe I'll do some research first.

If they are from the 1950's or 60's, that would be a keeper for me. You never know, some collector may figure there is a value to them.

Just got back from Wally and picked up 2 - 100rnd boxes of Winchester 9mm 115gr FMJ for $43.24. They had about 20-30 boxes of them left. There was also a lot of Blazer Brass 9mm for $8.5x for a box of 50. I didn't pick them up since I've never shot them before and these Wins shoot fine for me.

Winchester advised they were made in 1982, so, no antique value

LOL...so much for that. Maybe it will have a collectors value in 50 years. :biggrinjester: OK then...I would be shooting that stuff.

According to the Academy flier, WWB 9mm 100-rd value pack is $17.99/box. I bet that goes quickly.

Yep; max of five boxes per person. An FYI is that Wally World is advertising they'll meet anyone's advertised Black Friday specials.

But this is a rare and treasured day off for me, and there's no way I want to spend it as one of the sardines packed in a store. ;-)

I didn't get by Academy yesterday. I will see if they have any today. Last two or three times I was in, they were out of almost all 9mm ammo anyway, and I have never ever seen a 100-rd box of WWB on the shelf there. So my hopes are not high. If Wal Mart will meet an "advertised" special on Saturday after Black Friday then maybe I'll buy some there.

It was not exactly a smokin' deal anyway. 10% off the normal Wal Mart price. Big whoop.

I went and opened the 100rnd WWB. Didn't realize they were loose and not in one of those black/styrofoam things the 50rnds come in. Since I usually keep mine, I went ahead and put them all in one. Both of the 2 100rnd WWB had an extra round in them making it 101 in each box. :thumbs2:

The academy on 75 in Plano is out and told me they wouldn't get anymore in until the sale was over...I missed out on another special. It seems like I am always the last one to hear about these deals. :banghead:

I got a killer deal on Black Friday. Dicks was running their buy one get one 50% off deal (max 6 boxes, total). I went in to the store, and their prices were higher even after the discount than Walmart's normal prices!

Then I took the ad to Walmart and asked if they'd honor it. Walked out with 6 boxes of Winchester -- 2 boxes of the 100-rd 40 S&W for $42 (regular $56) and 4 boxes of 100-rd 9mm for $60 (regular $80). That works out to 21 and 15 cents per round!!! Cheap as I've found. Just wish I'd gotten to a couple more Walmarts before the sale ended (didn't realize the ad was only valid till 2pm).

Still, for $18 / box, I wouldn't have minded a little more from Academy. What I do with Academy (not Dicks or Sports Authority, cause their prices are just way too high) is buy gift cards off Craigslist for about 25% under value.... It's my way of getting the discount, since the 25% off coupons never seem to include ammo.
