For newbies, this is the sign that is to be displayed when an establishment's TABC license has the line that says, "Sign = Blue".
Blue =

Danny White wrote:I saw this sign at Lupe Tortilla Mexican Restaurant at I-10 and Beltway 6 near Katy. The way I read this sign, it just says if you don't have a license, you can't carry a concealed handgun, so obviously the sign means nothing for a licensed CHL holder right? I am assuming the restaurant gets almost all of their revenue from food.

Welcome to the forum and you are correct. This type of sign is to be posted anywhere they sell alcohol for on or off premise consumption. It means nothing to a CHL as we are licensed and it says 'unlicensed' possession.

Dickinson PD are displaying an illegal 30.06 on their main doorway. It is white lettering stuck directly to the glass...not sure if they have the same sign in Spanish either as I wasn't really paying attention to it. I just noticed the english version.

City of Apline Utility Department has a ghost busters sign in the front door. Says something like HandGuns prohibited by security company.

I may want to tackle this for the Tarrant County Records Building, which has an obnoxious and strongly worded non-30.06 sign.
I was back there last week to get a car title changed. I noticed that obnoxious sign was gone, replaced by a generic "unlicensed persons" sign.
Next trip I'm going to ask the desk deputy about CHL carry.

I wouldn't - since it says "unlicensed", they are obviously not referring to folks WITH a license (ie. you).

Here's the new sign:

I know, but I did. I rarely go there.
Of course the deputy on duty had his mind elsewhere and acted like I was invisible while he watched someone at the other end of the building.
I mentioned the sign change and asked if the building was now "CHL friendly".
He said "They just added knives and stuff to the sign. You have to be law enforcement to carry here"
I said "Why is that?"
"It's just like any other federal building, no firearms".
I said "But this is not a federal building, it's a county office building".
He said "they're all federal, doesn't matter" walking away.
Total idiot. I could see why he had that duty.

I'm glad to see they are picking on 1911s, and leaving the Berettas alone.

- all guns
- all knives
- all chemical sprays
They left off key rings, fingernails, and teeth.
It's sad that someone gets paid to come up with stuff like this.

I'm sorry, but I've read this a few times and I'm just not seeing where it says anything about "unlicensed." I thought this was the obnoxious sign. Since it is not a proper sign I realize that it is referring to an unlicensed person. Is this what you meant?
Were there any metal detectors at the entrance?

Yes, I know this is noncompliant. So was the old one.
The old sign was the obnoxious one. I sent a photo of that much earlier in this thread.
Here it is again:

Only the entity (city council or whatever) that controls the property can take down these signs. You may be able to persuade them to do so, as I have mentioned previously in this thread. If you have deep pockets or a law degree, you may be able to get a court order that compels them to do so.

Going back to the beginning:
The obnoxious post that says "this includes CHL holders" was posted during the term of a previous Tarrant county Sheriff.
Since then, Dee Anderson (Dem) has become sheriff, and the sign has changed.
I presume Sheriff Anderson is responsible for the sign change.
I intend to contact the sheriff and ask about it. Perhaps i'll write a letter and see if he will confirm (in writing) that CHLs are good to carry therein.
If he does, I might even vote for a Democrat next election.
I understand the "Don't ask, don't tell" concept, but walking into a government building is a bit different from going into a badly posted Taco Bueno.

The sign is
not illegal, just invalid. They hold no legal weight. They can post whatever they want on the walls, we just don't have to abide by them as far as CHL is concerned.
