Nope

Other things I learned from both my first class and renewal . . .

* Makarovs are not the perfectly reliable pistols some claim . . .
* Neither are Kimber or Colt 1911s . . .
* Austin and Pflugerville LEOs can't be depended on to take usable fingerprints.

When was the Makarov in question?

I took my class in late February this year out at Tom Schaefer's place using my PA-63 (in 9mm Makarov) and forgot to charge the gun after reloading. That cost me that string of 3 shots. Just wondering if it was the same class. I also learned afterward that Tom (retired Austin LEO) isn't the greatest at fingerprinting. I was glad that my prints passed, as they were marginal, IMO. He's a great instructor, though. I really enjoyed the class.

During my shooting portion the guy next to me kept having jams. After we ceased fire he cleared his weapon by firing it into the ground infront of us. It got a lot of looks but no one said anything.

During the class I heard a slew of those "what if" questions and some guy kept butting in to say what was lawful or not. For all I know he was right though.

Why is that scary? The 2A says no infrindgements on bearing arms. There's no mention of 21+ age, training reqs, blabbing to LEO, etc. None of that is in those two precious lines of text. The 5A doesn't lay out any rules about self incrimination, why should restrictions be imposed on the 2A?

To me it is much scarier for the uneducated to be pulling the voting lever than carrying a firearm in a car!

Now, back to the stories.

There was this one guy in my class that kept trying to take over everything. He kept asking if he could carry an AK handgun. He must have asked that question about 20 times. He was even bosting about how well he could shoot. Well, lets just say that if he got a 200 on the test I would be shocked. I dont know if he passed the writen test, as I had finished before he did and had left.

In every group of people I have ever been in, there has always been at least one that could not just sit there and listen. In my last renewal class there were several people that had to keep interrupting the class with irrelevant comments.

My friend went to one where some folks were shooting their pistols sideways, gangsta like.

People need more training in common sense than in firearm handling. That has been my experience. A lot a handgun/rifle accidents could be prevented with not training in them alone, but with just common sense. I don't know what happened along our species line, but people seem to lack common sense more these days.


My class was small. There were 5 of us in there the first half and when the renewals came in we were 8.


We had this very very old man who used a walker. I would guess that it would take him anywhere from 5-6 seconds to bring his gun into action if he had to. He also was very slow in loading, clearing, etc. Not to mention his gun really didn't like the ammo he was using at all. Anyway, I'll tell you one thing, once he had that gun pointed at the target he was freaking ELITE. Thats all I'm saying.


There was also some guy in the class who didn't really know why he wanted a CHL, he didn't own a gun, etc.

As the saying goes, "when you need a gun , you need it real fast." The same could be said about the CHL i suppose. Maybe he figure he might need it some day :)

We could speculate forever.

Some reporters have gone through the class just to see what it was like.

In many states, you need a pistol permit to buy a handgun. Maybe he thought that was the case in Texas.
