How much did you pay for the Winchester Rangers?
I got a box of 50 for about $30, shipping included from Ammunitiontogo, who are based in texas. I got my ammo the next day via ups ground.

I would not say that they are anemic. However my personal preference when carrying my S&W 908 is the Gold Dot 124 grn +P Short Barrell round.

I just got my order yesterday. they were $20 perbox, plus $7 for shipping.

i stay loaded with rangers 127 +p+ i usually re-up once a month since big dog ammo (same people as ammunitiontogo) are at the gunshows in houston.

which Rangers? the 147gr T-series. the ad says that it's the 3rd Gen Evil Claw of Death.

those that carry 147gr, do you ever have problems as far as feeding/accuracy goes?

i've read a few articles that says 147gr is big problems.

i plan on switching over to corbon 115gr +p+ in the new year.

I ain't shot none yet. when I do, I'll letcha know.
I couldn't imagine any "accuracy issues" at 5 yds. or 10yds. beyond that, well, they'd be far enough away that I could prolly hide behind a car or sumpin.

I've shot three boxes of discarded 147's in my M&P and didn't have any problems.

I perrsonally think that 124gr is the velocity/mass sweet spot, though.

You can't have this conversation without this question being raised: Do modern hollow point bullets expand significantly when fired into the human body?

Talked with a long-time cop recently on this, and he said generally what you see is some minor, out-of-round mild deformity of the bullet, but in general not very good expansion. I think he'd seen more than a few cases.

In view of the FBI handgun wounding report emphasizing penetration over expansion in the choice of caliber, I am sometimes inclined to 115-124 grain ball ammo for SD carry in a 9 mm semi auto with am emphasis on multiple rounds fired in rapid succession, and shot placement. None of this esoteric double tap stuff. Get on target and pump half a dozen or more into a tight group. If necessary, aim at another vital area and repeat the procedure.

Actually, there's been one heck of a lot of people killed over the course of history with .32 APC hardball that struck in the right place.

im more inclined to shot placement over anything. pump many shots in one area could cause for empty mag.

and i dont carry extra mags. if i ever have to use my weapon, id like for it to be over in 2 shots.

Too bad you don't get to be the one to decide that all the time. You can do your part, but still - there is at least one other person who has something to say about it.

My thought is pick something that will be good even if it doesn't expand. Expansion is a bonus. Do not trade penetration for expansion unless you can keep your penetration in the 12"+ range. Solids are not bad, but a flat point / large meplat beats a rounded profile.

I don't carry an extra mag either, but I can carry 18 rounds. If I need more than that, I'm in trouble.

I carry just plain ole Winchester White Box 115 grn JHP. 13 bux for 50 rounds at Academy.

and I understand your capacity situation, too.

but here's the deal. if you have a backup mag, and your primary mag jams, fails, maybe the gun gets dropped in the melee, or a slew of other issues, you can kick out that mag, and you're back in it.
that's just what I've read, and it seems to make sense to me. I think ol' Clint Smith's perspective was, "One is none, two is one..."

my way of thinking is that a BUG serves this same function, too.

in my perfect world, I'd carry my Beretta, and extra mag, my revolver BUG with a speed loader.
course, I don't always have pockets et al for everything!
