A lot of people thought that in 2006 election and it didn't happen. It was a six way race with Republican and Republican-leaning votes split between Friedman and Keeton - Rylander - Strayhorn. Democrat Chris Bell only managed to get 29.78% of the vote.lws380 wrote:He better hurry. IMHO he will be gone on the next election if he decided to run again. Chas.Just checked and Perry got 39.3 % of the votes in the last election. That means 60.7% voted for someone else. That is not a good sign.
The real question is whether Hutchison can carry the primary and I seriously doubt that. She's been pretty good on our votes, but she has some baggage. More importantly, the Republicans with money, even her chief supporter, don't want to to run against Perry. If she does, he gets the money and she doesn't.
Texas has never had a better Governor on the gun issue. In fact, we've only had two that supported us; Gov/President Bush and Gov. Perry. Perry has done two things I don't like, but I can say that about every politician I've ever supported. Perry has gone way out on political limbs supporting us and pro-gun bills. If gun owners are not loyal to a Governor who has done as much as Governor Perry has done for us, then we can't expect loyalty from anyone else.
