Before we mobilize big time, I'd like to hear Charles' opinion on whether this is going anywhere.

There are scores of bills that get filed with no chance of passage.

No sense wasting our efforts and political capital on something that stands little chance of passing.

I say this only because I have yet to receive any kind of alert from either the NRA or GOA.

If I understand this to be a complete list of sponsors, I don't recognize any heavy hitters.

You might also ask yourselves, "Why aren't we hearing anything about this from the mainstream media?" Could it be that they're hoping that this bill, with which the vast majority of them agree, will quietly pass into law? I'm not sure we should wait to mobilize. We should be spreading the word and encouraging everyone to contact their representatives. I know I am!

I think any bill introduced now that is not an emergency or something with a lot of media attention is going to die. There is not enough time for the committee to hear and consider it in most cases before Congress adjourns for the election season. And that kills any bills pending at that time.

Keep an eye on it, but I think it is political grandstanding. Still makes the Republicans look bad, and will hurt McCain's standing.

I never view getting information out as wasting any political capital. For sure there is the personal time & effort involved. All I'm saying is when you'll be going down to the range or where ever in the next couple weeks or so, as I imagine most of us do on a pretty regular basis, it does no harm to bring some handouts the owners will very likely accept to just sit by the register or what not. Also I guess my line of thinking would be a bigger response earlier on would have a better effect to the politicians this is an important issue to you. While for the most part they might not care what you want really they do care if you'll be voting for them.
