Howdy, mr72.

I did read your original post and understand the point you were trying to get across and your
comparison to biking. In that post you indicated you are an "information" kind of guy and in your quote above, you state that you are a member of 3 CCW/gun forums.

May I suggest instead of gathering your information from the Internet and various gun shops
that you join us on CHL Day at PSC in September. As you have probably read, there is an
enormous amount of hands on training and information available at this event.

I predict that if you keep an open mind, you will leave with a new opinion.

I will be the Safety Officer for the "Texas Stars" again this year so stop by and say Hi.

PS. I will show you the secret CHL handshake and you can tell me how you guys can ride a bike all day without getting a numb crotch.

Also this is not the "CCW a full sized pistol" thread, even though some of you seem to be stuck in that groove. I am a member of 3 different CCW/gun forums and the original post in this thread was related to my experience on all of them along with interactions at gun shops and other personal interactions, not just one thread on this forum.

Many of you are suggesting that I am easily rattled or I have a thin skin and that's not the case. Mostly it's that I took the time to write out what I thought was a clear, reasoned, and non-antagonizing post and it only took two replies for someone to pop in and start name calling. It's just not worth it. But still the chorus of respondents on this thread almost universally are trying to tell me I am wrong. Some who didn't even read the original post are finding another thread on this forum to refer to and tell me I am wrong. I find that kind of amusingly ironic. There is one member of this forum who continues to remind me of the virtue of not posting in threads that may be controversial. I am going to see if I can take that advice.

So you are going to let that one person keep you from participating in a healthy discussions about topics that come up. :headscratch

Me? A "bad apple"?

Apparently my lack of empathy for, what I consider to be, one of the primary failings of the “Gen X/GenY community i.e. the “I want it now and I want it ONLY on my terms mindset,

which I equated with the term “whining,

marks me as a “bad apple.

Hummm……

Have a nice day.

Since I am that one person, I am reluctantly participating in this discussion.

There is a CHL orthodoxy. I will give one example of it: I heard a radio interview with Ted Nugent several years ago (I don't remember where, but it may have been NRA News). He said that gun owners should have nothing to do with anyone who is not an NRA member.

In my opinion, that is insane. I am not going to quiz my relatives, friends, co-workers, or the firemen who are putting out a fire in my house about whether they are NRA members.

There are over 10 million holders of concealed-weapons permits (by whatever name they are called) nationwide. Are some of them Democrats, liberals, atheists, Muslims, or gay? Of course. Do you see them posting on RKBA forums? Of course not.

(For the record, I am none of the above.)

I've asked you to repost what I think was a very good post and you have decided against it. I respect your decision. However, if you are not going to repost it, then I think it's unfair for you to continue defending your position on a post others cannot read.

Chas.

I agree, Charles.

Maybe you would just lock this thread then.

Will The Real You Please Stand Up?

Submit to pressure from your peers and you move down to their level.
Speak up for your own beliefs and invite them up to your level.
If you move with the crowd, you’ll get no further than the crowd.
When 40 million people believe in a dumb idea, it’s still a dumb idea.
Simply swimming with the tide leaves you nowhere.
So, if you believe in something that’s good, honest, and bright – stand up for it!
Maybe your peers will get smart and drift your way.

A message as published in the Wall Street Journal by United Technologies Corporation, Hartford, Connecticut, 06101.
This is on my office wall at work and my home office. This I taught to my sons.

You must stand up for what you believe in. We can learn from you.

We might not always agree with you, but we all must take our lumps and criticisms along the way.

You mentioned culture. I am a meber of the gun culture. I do not like being referred to as a gun nut. I do not like being referred to as a redneck. I am a firearms enthusiast.

Here's the problem, Anygun: What you and I think is "good, honest, and bright," others think is evil or insane. If you stand up for your views, you risk being attacked, even if it is by a pack of toothless dachshunds.

I have said many times that the right to keep and bear arms should be as close to any gun anywhere as we can get. Every time that proposition comes up, members of this forum ridicule and attack it.

Here we go again. :banghead:

Too many individuals who consider themselves freedom loving are addicted to reasonable restrictions and common sense gun laws. Having the government to protect them and nanny them gives them a pheromone induced high.

It's your choice. Your posts are the face you show to an online community, especially if you haven't met many of the people live. If you delete well spoken rational posts, you deny people the chance to see that side of you.
