If McCain had won and I saw a bunch of liberals talking about their state needing to pass preemption laws in order to protect themselves from a far reaching federal law (patriot act would have been a good one to protect ourselves from) I would have thought they were nuts. As I read this thread I think the same thing.

When will this be sent to the governor and legislature?

I'm thinking we need to print copies of this with and supply some sign up sheets. Spread them around to gun selling shops. Collect them up in 8 weeks and mail them to someone in Austin that could present to the TSRA maybe...
Nearly everyone I know would sign it if it were in front of them.
I have no problem circulating them here.

932???? Maybe on Tuesday... as of this morning, Saturday, there are 2674 signatures!!! (Two signatures have been removed by me because they were inappropriate or not valid)

You guys ROCK!!! I can't believe the response on this, it has been absolutely amazing! What surprises me as well is the number of voters that have signed this petition that stated they do not currently own guns.

I've gotten a lot of feedback and suggestions. One thing I might like to add is that I can not edit the petition in any way. (How would you feel if I edited the document to say something different after you signed it???) Most of the suggestions I have gotten are ways to help eliminate any confusion with regard to the message of the petition, however, considering the number and frequency of signatures it has gotten, I think most people understand what the petition is trying to accomplish.

The petition began a little less than 2 weeks ago, and I would like to keep getting as many signatures as we can for at least another month. Then I will begin planning how, and through which channels, the petition will be delivered.

Please continue to forward this to anyone you may know that would understand and appreciate the cause.

Thanks again for all the support.

Texans and other true red American states should fall back on their governor and state legislatures to pass resolutions that will refuse to enforce any gun legislation (assault weapons ban, chl ban, gun confiscation etc.) within the borders of that state and will even protect citizens of such states from efforts of federal officials arresting them if they attempt to break and enter or harrass people of Texas.
Unfortunately, all the feds have to do is withhold those precious Highway dollars and the Texas legislature has a history of bending over and taking it.

Oh, please don't get me started on highway funds. Listening to TXDOT, you'd think we have zero federal highway funds. :totap:
Thats why you have to pay to drive on any new roads being built here, event though your taxes paid to build them. :mad5

So has this petition been mailed off to somebody in Austin? Is it going to get voted on or does it just fall through the cracks?

Y'all should take a look at what happened today, and the announcement of support from the govenor and some neat people in Austin for "HCR 50"...

That is either going to throw down the proverbial gauntlet, to dare someone to pick it up...Or someone will not follow thru (doubtful) and it becomes a lot of hot air...
