Sec. 46.02. UNLAWFUL CARRYING WEAPONS. (a) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his or her person a handgun, illegal knife, or club if the person is not:
(1) on the person's own premises or premises under the person's control; or
(2) inside of or directly en route to a motor vehicle that is owned by the person or under the person's control.
(see link for full details)
OK, now you're confusing me...
Where/why does it say it's "illegal to carry"?
It's right there in the part they quoted.
A person commits an offense if the person
intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly
carries on or about his or her person a handgun
They cover all this in the CHL class. If you don't want to take the class, then maybe pay a lawyer with experience in gun laws to explain it?

So is there a list that someone has compiled (after reading the law)
of places a CHL person cannot carry?
I'd be interested in seeing that list just
for my own education on this subject.

OK, sorry... I thought one of the purposes of this board
was to help folks understand the regulations.

Rockrz,
Part of the responsibility of owning a firearm, car, house, etc. is also knowing the laws associated with them. Telling an officer who is arresting you or a judge that 'I didn't know what I was doing was illegal' will not cut it.
When folks go to get their CHL, part of the training that comes along with it is educating you on the laws you need to know to be a responsible CHL holder so you won't break the law. Even without the CHL, it is the responsibility of a person with a firearm to know what is and what is not legal. That includes car carry (Motorist Protection Act), Castle Doctrine and when you can use it, etc.
I understand that reading through regulations is sometimes tedious, confusing and hard to interpret. Here is a compiled document that may help you out
http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/texas.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
One thing to note, every state has different laws, and in some states, cities may allowed to enact laws even more restrictive on firearms. So, if you travel out of state, check out their laws before you take your gun.

I don't mean to be piling on here, but you have no business carrying a handgun if you don't know the law.
If you are not licensed, then you are not legal to carry ANYWHERE except in your car, or on your own property. So, obviously, you don't need to know what sections of the law tell you where you are legal to carry. The short answer is, YOU AREN'T!
If you still want to know the law, even though you are not legal to carry, then download the LS-16 from the DPS website. Read it, try to understand it, and follow it.

Not when purchasing FTF...

I am in fact legal to carry in my vehicle, at my work (I own my own business and
I'm in control there), and obviously in my home. That's all I'm intrested in, thanks.
Sorry to have bothered you guys seeing you aren't interested in helping others
understand, or maybe some of you don't know the answers yourselves, I don't know.
So, I'll unsubscribe and find help on my own elsewhere. Thanks.

I don't know why you're complaining. People answered your questions.
