Welcome to the forum. You'll be getting a PM with a welcome message also, but I haven't gotten to it yet.

The statutory processing time begins the day they receive your packet, assuming it was complete. When they actually start processing is anyone's guess.

Chas.

I took my CHL class on Apr. 8th, mailed in my application on Apr. 10th, and just today called Austin to see what the progress on my application is.
Come to find out there was a slight problem with my fingerprint cards, the fingerprinter did not sign them!
Austin says they mailed them back to me on May 10th, but I have not received them yet.
So I called my CHL instructor, and he took another set of prints to send in, says it will be faster than waiting for the old prints to arrive, get them signed and sent back.
What a bummer! Now I guess I start all over again.

Thanks, Diode. When I first decided to join the forum, I thought I would be here a few days. I called Austin to get an estimate for how long, when they told me about the fingerprint cards. Now it looks like I'll be here a long time.

If you have not talked with them yet, by all means give them a call. I called them twice at around 8:30 in the morning and got right through. Very friendly ladies and you know right where you at!

The phone number is right there on the page where you check online.

Granny Glock, contact Waldene Leach; she works in the CHL office for DPS. I got her e-mail address from someone else here, and I think that helped with mine.
Just be nice. Its easier to get flies with honey than with vinegar.
waldene.leach@txdps.state.tx.us

I hope that helps.

Guess there is...

Pattern for DPS on how they process applications. I mean I see people here get thiers before the 60 day deadline and way past that. I understand that there could have been problems with the applications and finger print cards,ect.. but the ones that have no problems are still not consistant. Ohh well thats Austin.

It would be nice to know what all factors intoa check. Maybe someday one of the people who works there will pop i nand tell us what actually goes on.

I talked to the CHL people in Austin again yesterday about my lost fingerprint cards; turns out they still had them. They did not send them to me to get signed, did not send me the letter they said they sent me about the problem, and no one knows why not. The girl working on my application never seems to be there, but another girl who sits next to her has been very helpful in sorting this out. Good thing I sent them a new set of prints, they are going to use the new ones. Looks like I am now in the "processing" stage.

Mine expires Jan 14, 07. That means I can start my process the 14th of August. I think. :headscratch As much trouble as some of you guys are having I better not loose a day.

I would suggest that to anyone who is renewing Longtooth. It appears that the folks up there in Austin are working as hard as they can, but with limited resources they are running behind. Everyone should plan ahead, check your packets contents to make sure it is complete and accurate before you mail it. Look at the photo and the fingerprint cards, if they look bad to you they probably will look bad to them as well. Make sure you signed where you should etc. Mainly do everything you can to make sure it is easy to process the first time through. And, especially, don't wait until the last minute to take the class and send the stuff in. I am a firm believer in spending a little more for the class to get one where they do all the prep for you. Most of them will also check your paperwork to make sure it is done properly.
