I am with you on that. But I see a fair number of others on this forum who will run just a magazine full of their SD ammo through a new pistol before carrying...

I figure 200 rounds is a good number. 50 is the bare minimum for me. This is why I don't tend to carry the $1+/round SD ammo.

So what are you using?

As much as it pained my wallet, I ran through 100 rounds of Corbon in one of my LCP's today... not a single malfunction.

Yeah, this is why I am still on the fence about the benefits of boutique ammunition. I have my S&W loaded up on "budget silvertip" aka Winchester White Box, and Federal BPLE +P I get for $20/50rd in my Kahr. Mostly because I can't budget 100-200 rounds of $1/round ammo for testing in each gun.

I don't disagree with your logic, it makes sense.

For me it came down to a situation where I needed it, I just wanted the most bang, REGARDLESS of bucks if a shooting situation came to fruition.

I also have run through 100 rounds of 135gr Corbon for my inside house pistol, my XDM .40. But you won't find me shooting it at the range any more...

I just checked the Ammunition section of the LCP Instruction Manual. In big bold red print it states Do not use “+P” ammunition - TWICE

Corbon .380 is not +P.

I agree, if you can budget it, then go for the gusto. However, I think there are acceptable self-defense ammo choices that are affordable enough that you can regularly practice with your actual SD ammo. I like to practice shooting my Kahr with the 124gr BPLE +P because the recoil is quite different and the POI is also a little different vs. the WWB I practice with normally. The JHP WWBs do not shoot any differently than the 115gr FMJs, so it's not that important in that case.

Considering the high round count I had to get to in order to discover the light strikes problem with WWB in my Kahr, I would be concerned about only running 100 rounds or less of your chosen SD ammo because I could often get 100+ consecutive rounds of WWB through my Kahr without a hitch and then suddenly get 7 in a row that would "click" rather than "bang".

As usual, more rounds = better :)

It all has to do with each individual's acceptable level of risk. There are lots of great self defense rounds out there, and in a life threatening situation even bargain basement FMJ's are better than throwing a punch, any day.

Lot's of great SD ammo out there... I've just seen what Corbon .40 does to a deer and liked the result.

However, for the record, the only Buffalo Bore I have seen (on the shelves at Cabelas in Ft Worth) is +P.

All Buffalo Bore .380 is +P. They don't make a non +P .380 round.
