Excaliber wrote: In a city or suburban environment, I would agree with you. However, in a rural area, there's often more than a car stereo at stake, and calling the police won't keep a crime from happening due to very long response times. When criminals attempt to steal livestock or expensive equipment needed to operate a farm, they threaten a family's livelihood. Although the dangers to the defenders remain the same (or greater due to the fact the cavalry won't be coming anytime soon), the consequences of not taking direct action may well be unacceptable.
I absolutely agree. The challenges are very different in each of those situations.

This is tongue-in-cheek, but not totally, my patented "check it out" attire usually consists of skivvies and a shotgun and/or handgun. Believe it or not, extra mag seems to stay put pretty well on left side waistband...I figure if the sight of me in my skivvies doesn't take care of a situation (it's ugly, let's just say that! lol) then the firepower surely will. :biggrinjester: This method is just for the backyard, it's fenced in with the big ole great dane keeping an eye on things.

A friend of mine has used the birthday suit approach, with a shotgun, unfortunately the shot gun was loaded with dove load...he heard it "tinking" off of the thief's truck...had he been using buckshot I'm sure it would've been different. This friend lives in Dallas, awoke early one morning (as in, still dark) and saw a bad guy stealing stuff from his carport...my buddy jumped out of bed and grabbed the shotgun and went full bore...no pun intended. Bad guy got away with truck damage for sure, not sure about skin damage. I don't know what scared the bad guy away more...the shotgun blasts or a naked/hairy ewok-looking figure running at him? LOL :biggrinjester:

The image alone is enought to cause insomnia...I got every light on in the house, and I don't think I can fall asleep with one eye open...

I'm sending you the bill... ;-) :smilelol5: :cheers2:

Why cannot you ask your wife to provide sniper cover?
Please help the wounded store owner who fought off 3 robbers. He doesn't have medical insurance.

You must protect this house.
If I had a gun for every ace I have drawn, I could arm a town the size of Abilene.
