I used to think Jay Leno's Jawalking segments were setups then I looked at what gets elected in this country. Sad but I think those people may actually be representative of the intelligence level of the country. Some of these people deserve the elected officials we get. The bad part is the rest of us are stuck with it.
Heaven forbid we should require people to have at least a passing knowledge of history, politics, and geography along with a tiny helping of common sense. However that would be discriminatory toward the ignorant and lazy mass'.

There used to be laws like that, designed to preclude blacks from voting (literacy, knowledge), the collateral of that was there were a lot of illiterate whites that were precluded as well. A racist law that cut both ways.

Dragon I'm not being racist at all there are enough ignorant people of all colors and shades to go around on both the right and the left. Not enough people read the background and history of issues on either side. Most would rather take either sides talking heads word for what is good or bad with a particular issue.
I guess I just happen to enjoy political science, history, and geography due to my days in college when I was stupid enough to go with pol-sci and history then figured out that the degree plan was only good if I wanted to become a lawyer, politician, or teacher. But I still enjoy it and took much from my disagreements with my very liberal professors in the 70's. I tended to be much more conservative than most of them probably due to my upbringing. I have since mellowed quite a bit and find my self probably somewhere to the left of Levin and Savage but to the right of most of the Congress. I have voted for Dems, Reps, Libertarians, and an eccentric Independant from Highland Park over the years there is no one party I can support unconditionally that is why people need to do their own due dilligence and you have to be semi literate at least to be able to do that.

Well, following Daley's logic, I blame the fork, knife and SPOON (it's really the spoon's fault) for making ME fat!
I mean, I'd never just shovel food into my own mouth...the cutlery did it!

Oh man, I hope I didn't convey I thought you were being racist...my comment was more a free association inspired by yours. I am sorry I created that impression. I too am a history buff and strongly believe; and I believe we are witnessing what happens when, "Those that won't learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
Again, please forgive me the impression I left, I didn't mean it.
