Nah, just need Chicago to fall into Lake Michigan. The rest of the state is not too bad.

Since we're wishin': rather than add to the pollution of Lake Michigan, why not have the New Madrid Fault open up, swallow Chicago and close back over?

What's the New Madrid Fault you ask....

The last time I checked a Texas CHL is not a form of ID and cannot be used as one. I don't remember anything from the 2009 legislative session that changed that. So, I would count myself lucky if anyone took it as a valid form of ID even with hassle. That is just my personal take on not having the proper form of ID when I choose fly.

If anyone can show me where my statement is false I would appreciate it very much.
As I mentioned in my first statement, the 2yr old through my wife's DL in the trash can (we think). We only had a couple of days till we had to fly. Anytime you deal with guvmnt, it is not a couple of days of work.

This was the only form of ID she had. It is issued by the State of Texas, and should be respected. This is not a mail in ID. No ID, no fly!

My encounter with the Fruit Police (Florida division)

In 1972 I was on my "adventure across America" and
driving my '69 Dodge red panel van.

I was in the panhandle of Florida, on my way to Colorado.

I passed a sign which said "Agricultural Inspection Station.
All trucks pull in for inspection."

Since my van was just a personal van, not a freight hauler,
I assumed that I didn't need to stop.

After I passed the station, a marked cruiser pulled out, lit me up,
and pulled me over.

"Why didn't you stop at the station?"

Me: "I'm not hauling produce. This is my personal van."

After shining a light on my personal possessions, he let me go.

Remember, she didn't have a gun on her or in her luggage. She had a valid TX D.L. and CHL. Why would anyone grill someone over simply possessing those 2 things? :headscratch :???:

The agricultural inspection stations in California are not for checking for fruit coming in from another country. That's the job of USDA and Customs. They're for checking for fruit coming from other states.

I understand this is intended to combat fruit flies and agricultural pests, but it's a clear violation of the constitutional prohibition on regulating interstate commerce (a power solely vested in Congress, not the several states).

Well, I wasn't exactly a hippie. I worked drywall construction jobs in Orlando, FL,
then lived in Boulder, Colorado working on apts and houses.

But on my transit from FL to Boulder, I was stopped for speeding near Dalhart, TX
on a Friday night about 11 PM.

The DPS trooper was sweating me for 75 MPH in a 65 MPH night zone while his radar
showed folks doing 95 while he was talking to me. I was in the right front seat of his
440 cubic inch Mopar.

He gave me a warning, but when I asked him if I got a copy for myself he answered:
"TexDOT is tired of picking up all these warnings we were giving people.
But if you like, I can lock you up for the weekend.
Then on Monday morning, you can ask the judge in Dalhart for ALL the copies you want.
How's that sound?"

I told him that's OK, I don't need a hardcopy. After letting me go, he laid about 100 feet
of rubber as he took off, going towards Dalhart. I guess we were on US 287.

When I entered Dalhart, the original DPS trooper and a different DPS trooper roared out of
2 different houses' driveways, bracketing me front and rear. I absolutely thought I was going
to see the inside of the Dalhart jail.

At the 4 way stop in the center of Dalhart, I GREW ROOTS, then took off slowly, going
straight ahead, towards NM.

They both roared to the right at the intersection and probably laughed themselves silly.

Being 19 years old and driving a red van with Massachusetts plates, just before your Mass DL
expires, in Texas, will give you an interesting story. :-)

I crossed the state line and slept peacefully for the night 100 yards into New Mexico.

The State of Texas does not consider the CHL a form of identification. Note in Government Code 411.205(b), that you are committing an offense when you do not display the "license and identification" when asked to by a peace officer. If the license was identification, this statement could not be written in the law.

Also, there is no way for anyone at an airport, especially outside of Texas, to verify your CHL as valid and not bought at a flea market. The interstate system will handle driver's licenses and ID cards but does not carry CHL information.

But, the TSA accepted it and that was what counted at the moment. I also remember when banks accepted credit cards as ID too, though they never were intended for that.

True, but there's really no way for TSA at an airport to verify just about any ID presented to them as not "procured at a flea market". TSA doesn't get the resources of ICE or CBP with immediate electronic access to passport, visa, NCIC data, etc. They do, however, have those cool purple UV flashlights that they shine on my TXDL or my DoD contractor CAC card. Sometimes I give them a GSA secure building pass, which ironically was (bureaucratically) harder to get than a top secret govt security clearance, even though it looks as cheesy as a Wal-Mart employee ID.

Regardless of Texas' view of CHL as "not an ID", it fits the federal definition of a "government issued picture ID". By the way, you CAN fly with no ID domestically, although you'll be subject to additional screening.
4/13/1996 Completed CHL Class, 4/16/1996 Fingerprints, Affidavits, and Application Mailed, 10/4/1996 Received CHL, renewed 1998, 2002, 2006, 2011, 2016...). "ATF... Uhhh...heh...heh....Alcohol, tobacco, and GUNS!! Cool!!!!"
