What do you mean by "when he drinks"? You mean when he goes to the beer joint to slam a few and dance with the wimmenz? Or when he has a big ole steak at Saltgrass and a nice amber ale to go with it?
Two distinctly different things, I think.

Thanks, there appears to be a lot of agreement on this issue.

I just don't drink and drive, or drink and shoot. I know my tolerance level.
When my hubby and I go out to dinner, we always have a designated drinker and a designated shooter. Life is so much easier if both you and your significant other are licensed.

Nice catch, pulling that from another thread. I don't drink when I carry, which is always. I seldom have a drink away from the house.
However, it is not illegal for me to have a beer with a steak somewhere.

Ok is ILLEGAL for me to carry my handgun on me if I have had only one beer?
What I am asking is isn’t there a 0 Tolerance rule when it comes to Alcohol and Gun?

No it is not -- Not what? Not Illegal? Or NOT a ZERO tolerance rule?
I'm Confused...
That could mean, that "NO" you can't carry that it is indeed is a ZERO tolerance,
or it could mean
"NO," there is not a ZERO tolerance rule in Texas.
For me, It's: Got gun, no booze. (remember the "Got Milk" ad's?)

Well if it is not illegal to drink one beer then I guess there is no 0 tolerence rule.
Personal rule re: drinking

I have a personal rule regarding drinking that has served me pretty well so far: If I've had two or more beers (or glasses of wine, or shots of whatever), then I don't attempt to do anything that requires higher levels of motor skills or thought than walking & chewing bubble gum.
I grew up in a part of the country that has getting plastered as its primary pastime, and have been there on occasion. It never did entertain me much, and I find it's more fun to watch people getting drunk & stupid than it is to join them in that activity. I'm not a prude, I just don't have much use for alcohol.

Again, the law says you cannot carry while intoxicated, it does not say you cannot carry while drinking.
46.035
(d) A license holder commits an offense if, while
intoxicated, the license holder carries a handgun under the
authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, regardless
of whether the handgun is concealed.

Just so I know...beer with steak is OK? How about beer with pizza? Is that OK too? Does it matter what kind of beer? What if it's Mexican beer? How about red wine with pasta? Or is that white with pasta, red with fish? I can never keep it straight... What if the 51% on the sign isn't really red but faded out so that it's only pink? Does that make it OK to carry into a bar?
Can I go now? I think my blonde roots are showing. Need to add some artificial intelligence by way of Clairol.

Lets see:
Pizza with beer would be ok providing the firearm is a Beretta
Glock users would do well to have their beer with sauerbratten (or maybe weiner schnitzel)
A 1911 would go well with lone star and Briskit
