How the heck do y'all shoot with both eyes open? I have tried and tried to no avail. As soon as I open my left eye, I completely lose the sight picture and get double vision.

If it explains anything, I shoot right handed but I am left eye dominant.

With me, I'm a right-handed shooter (fine motor skills are best on that side), left-eye dominant, but only so past maybe 30 yards (long, boring story, severely nearsighted). Inside that distance, the right eye takes over due to the corrective lenses. So, I can not say there's a good or bad way, and I figure that every person has to do what they have to do to be effective and consistent, due to the range of "eye combinations." At long range, I do much better with left eye closed (not blocked), probably just due to years of practice.

It also tells me that the others here are correct when they say that it's different for plinking and self-defense, and it's really, really important to find out what works best for you in all cases. I still have to work on that.
Life is for learning.
IANAL, thank gosh!
