With me, I'm a right-handed shooter (fine motor skills are best on that side), left-eye dominant, but only so past maybe 30 yards (long, boring story, severely nearsighted). Inside that distance, the right eye takes over due to the corrective lenses. So, I can not say there's a good or bad way, and I figure that every person has to do what they have to do to be effective and consistent, due to the range of "eye combinations." At long range, I do much better with left eye closed (not blocked), probably just due to years of practice.pbwalker wrote:Slightly off topic, so I apologize in advance.
How the heck do y'all shoot with both eyes open? I have tried and tried to no avail. As soon as I open my left eye, I completely lose the sight picture and get double vision.
If it explains anything, I shoot right handed but I am left eye dominant.
It also tells me that the others here are correct when they say that it's different for plinking and self-defense, and it's really, really important to find out what works best for you in all cases. I still have to work on that.
