Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.
"It would give to persons of the negro race, ... the full liberty of speech in public and in private upon all subjects upon which its own citizens might speak; to hold public meetings upon political affairs, and to keep and carry arms wherever they went."
Dred Scott v. Sandford (1857)
You know, maybe this would be the way to turn the tide in Chicago...put up a bunch of billboards that say:
"Old White Men like Mayor Daley don't want Blacks to be able to defend themselves."
Booyah!

A while back, Chicago did a study of 20 years' worth of murders. If I remember correctly, about 3/4 of the killers had criminal records.
The good news is that about 2/3 of the victims
also had criminal records, putting most of the killings firmly into the "good riddance" category.
Then people started looking at demographics . . . and when it turned out that a certain demographic was represented
in overwhelming numbers among the killers . . . the media and politicians stopped talking about this study; silence descended as abruptly as if someone had flipped a switch.
As for Chicago's gun laws . . . I grew up in Chicago, though I moved away several decades ago. Even back then, Chicago's gun laws were repressive . . . and widely ignored by
good people.

It has been really interesting being in Chicago when all this is taking place.
In the Chicago Tribune this morning one of the alderman says "You cannot legislate criminals. They are going to be criminals no matter what... they are not going to register their guns."
No Kidding
Another one gave a plea "I also would encourage gangbangers who get those guns unlawfully to stop getting them unlawfully. We're going to increase the penalties to make sure our communities are safe."
REALLY!?

In theory...I agree though...BUT...
Don't you recall a little lesson we have been taught about "Force Multipliers?"
But getting back to the original discussion, I am a firm believer in Chicago deserves this for what they keep voting for...I have very little sympathy for them...Regardless if there are some who agree with us on the overall issue...
I would be a very hated person if I managed to live there long enough to experience this type of official oppression...

It's not nice to speak ill of the dead, and most Chicago voters are just that.

So typical of these elitists who claim for themselves the rights under our Constitution but deny those same rights to all those not in their "class".
I was thinking of going to Chicago area to visit family but decided it was not worth it with restrictions like these. They'll have to come to the Lone Star State if they want to see me - or me see them.

I'm there now (in Arlington Heights about 28 miles from downtown.) I can see a great view of the downtown skyline from my mother's hospital room.
Being relatively new to CHL, I really didn't want to make the trip without my "protection"... I did however bring my tactical flashlight so I can at least try to blind a BG if I run into one during my stay!
