Eh, idk about the flamethrower. Lighting them on fire is in the top 10 list of things NOT to do.

Takes too long to kill them, and in the mean time they light other things and possibly you on fire.

Wolfenstein 3d didn't have a nailgun, it had a knife, a pistol, a mg, and a chaingun.
Quake was the first FPS with a nailgun
It was fed with 'Nine Inch Nails', as a tribute to Trent Reznor who did the soundtrack, since he was such a huge fan of Doom
