Taurus 85 Ultralite with 38Spl +P. Not as prestigious as S&W, but it does well enough for me.

Oh, and don't forget a good pocket holster to go with it.

Gad zukes and little fishes! I never thought of it that way before. This gun is going to cripple me!

Man, this has been a great thread! Now I'm really looking at that LCR 5450 in .357 Magnum. I gotta get to the gun show this weekend and try to put my hands on some and see how they feel and then do a few trigger pulls as well. Sounds like the trigger pull is potentially pretty different between some of these. I need to make sure I find something nice and light on the trigger too.

I pocket a S&W 442. It's excellent for its role in my arsenal. It is almost always nearby, no matter what else I may be carrying.
Reliable....yes.
And hell, I like firing the thing at the range. Some hogue bantam grips, and its a lotta danged fun.

Good question. I just couldn't conceive of pocketing a Semi-auto .380. I held a few at some shops along the way... and no sir, not me. And folks, that is just me.
That j-frame revolver is peace-of-mind in the barest of circumstances.

Not sure I understand the recommendations for .22LR revolvers. I guess they are small, but at the end of the day, are they smaller and more easy to pocket than say a P3AT or LCP?

To me pocket revolver means you need something in the pocket that is big bore. Then again Kahr makes a PM45 that's pretty small...

If I go pocket carry, I'd be likely to get a small .380, but I can see how people wouldn't mind adding a bit more weight (and thickness only at the cylinder) to carry .357 mag or larger.

I was at Bass Pro this evening, trying to build some skill with my new LCP. After only about 30 rounds (it was at the end of a longer shooting session with other guns), I can see that it isn't going to be my favorite but I actually was more accurate with it than I expected, even when I increased the distance. My concern wasn't adding more weight but being afraid that the recoil of a .357 in the smaller gun would be so painful that I won't shoot it as much as I need to. At the end of the day, I think shot placement is at the top of the list and I know that I cannot do that without practice - lots of practice.

My only revolver, a Taurus 5 shot .357 Stainless snubby, is too clunky for pocket carry, so I pocket carry my PT709 Slim. SA, 8 rounds, with double strike capability.

I have several J-frames, of which the 340 is my favorite for carry. But, if I was in the market for a 5-holer these days and could only own one, it would be the Ruger LCR in 38+P. The lightweight 5-holers in .357 can be quite painful (or on the threshold of) and take longer to get back on target after lighting off just about any .357 load.

FWIW, some 2007 chronograph results of carry ammo out of 340:
125 g. Gold Dot .357: 1,124 fps avg.
135 g. Gold Dot .38+P: 824 fps avg.

Plus a few more from earlier this year:
Ammo: Speer Gold Dot 135 grain (short barrel: product #23921) 38+P out of Ruger LCR: 818 fps. Same ammo out of S&W 340: 816 fps

Ammo: Hornady 110 Grain 38+P Critical Defense. Ruger LCR: 907 fps S&W 340: 889 fps

Ammo: Corbon 125 grain DPX .357 Mag. from S&W 340: 1,049 fps

If my LCP counts as a snubby, I'm in.

442 works fine for me either in a pocket or IWB. For pocket carry, loose fitting pockets/pants work well. If you wear tight or form fitting pants, pocket carry is likely to not work very well for a snubby IMO. Cargo pants are great for pocket carrying a snubby. And my public service statement is to please don't stick a snubby in your pocket without it being in some kind of holster that covers the trigger. Its easy to just drop it in the pocket without a holster, but IMO your chances of a ND increases drastically. Be safe!
