Like someone else said, the first thing I did to the new 340 was to replace that factory grip that does not cover the backstrap. 158 grain 357s out of those 12 ounce guns hurts worse than full-blown loads of .454 out of a 7 1/2" Super Red Hawk.

I had a similar experience shooting the same load out of a Ruger LCR .357!!
After shooting it, I decided to stick with the .38+p rounds that I normally carry....

Naaaaaah, Ruger LCR is a pussycat compared to the factory-gripped 12-ounce Smiths. It's factory grip covers the back strap and the gun is a solid 3 ounces heavier.

The biggest recoil I have EVER experienced in a handgun was a 10 5/8" barrell model 29-3 silhouette gun with 250gr /1600fps custom loads. Shot at a Turkey at 150meters. I was up off the palette was many years ago when I could get off the ground that fast) and had handed off the weapon before the turkey fell (yes I hit it!) BUT that was the one and ONLY time I fired that weapon. I walked away with a very sore shoulder and a bloody elbow where it slammed it into the concrete pad. I went back to my 6" model 19 357.

I can totally relate to the slapping the mailbox! That silhouette gun was impressive - way more than the scandium frame 45 we just sold.

Great storey TAM. Its funny because im in the same boat. For years growing up and as an adult ive shot several magnum handguns. I used to own a .50 DEA. Ive never had a problem with recoil. When I would read posts about complaints i would think also (man up).

I bought a S&W Nite Guard 8 shot in .357 mag. Its also scandium very light gun(2 1/2 barrel). Took it to the range and for the first time in my life I had a gun were the recoil bothered me. I was shooting the same round Remmington 158 SJHP. I was kinda irritated as I originaly wanted the 7 shot stainless S&W pistol but fell in love with the Nite Guard and never had a recoil problem.

Kinda off subject but I will also add. For the shooter that buys a revolver and plans to use it at competitions or tactical training shoots. I have a huge problem trying to do a fast reload with a 8 shot speed loader. To many bullets moving around to line up with cylinder in a quik fashion. My son loves the pistol so I gave it to him. It is a great CCW gun being light just needs 125 grn med loads in her.

I shot a .45 Colt Derringer once.

I think it's the only firearm I've ever fired that I didn't shoot at least one full gun-load through.

The smaller the nastier, obviously. I hate range-time with my .380 Micro Desert Eagle.

Are you kidding? I'm at least as afraid of her as I am of 158 grain full house .357s.
