Dude, this doesn't have a dang thing to do with my upbringing. I was raised by a decorated WIA hero of Iwo Jima, and a woman who survived the Nazi occupation and ate cats and rats to stay alive. You moved to to 4 different states and and 16 schools by the 7th grade. I moved TWICE to different continents with different languages and different schools by the 5th grade. If you don't think I learned something from that, then I can't help you, but I surely don't use those facts to diminish the lives of other people. I'm not sure what part of what I wrote failed to resonate with you when I said "Life is hard. Life goes on. God is good." I'm not complaining. Life is hard. Life does go on. God is good. But I don't consider myself to be better than anyone - or less than anyone - simply because I give credit to God's goodness. You seriously need to think a little less of yourself. You're far from being the only one who has gotten through the University of Hard Knocks, and your response to my post is a perfect example of what SeamusTX was trying to communicate in his opening post.

Good grief.
I see you didn't give any credence to my first sentence. I am not belittling your hardships. Those were/are real.

I did not try to call you a whiner nor any other thing in a similar vein. I was simply stating that to some a move to another state is not a big deal. To others, and I have met a few, a move to a different town 20 miles away is a major upheaval in their lives. I am an example of those who think a move is not a problem.

Apparently I am still learning my communication skills.
C'mon guys,

Mrs. Oldgringo and I have lived in ten states and twelve towns/cities over my checkered career and our 25 year marriage. Now, we're stuck here in the Pineywoods because we can't afford to move anywhere else...and, that's okay.

It really is time for a :grouphug and some :cheers2: . :txflag:

This thread has been a very interesting read. I've stated on here before that I'm an Air Force "retiree". The funny thing is that I'm originally from Texas, but spent the last 20 years in a variety of other places. Texas isn't always the nicest place to live...the heat can be brutal and the weather unpredictable, the bugs will eat you up at various times of the year, and sometimes, it's a heck of a long way from one place to another. But, we packed everything up even though I knew a lot of folks there in California where I was stationed, and headed "home" to Texas. There was no way I could stay in that state with the laws the way they were...some folks in Texas have worked very hard to make sure we have some of these freedoms that others in our own nation don't enjoy. As silly as it may seem, CHL is one of the things that helped pull me back here, even with no job in hand. So, to paraphrase what one of my old bosses used to say, "Darned glad to be BACK here"!

Though I currently reside in my state of birth, my folks moved to Texas when I was less than a month old. Both of my siblings were born in the Texas Panhandle. I spent the majority of my life in that state except for three short periods. 66-74, 87-91 and 2002 to the present. I am one of the few I know who took both Texas and Oklahoma history, besides US History and not the PC crap "taught" currently.

Texas is not a bad place to be from or just to be.
