I got rear-ended at a stop light up in Austin a few months back by a truck with a bumper that looked a lot like that. It sure cost him (and his insurance company) a lot more money than it would have with a regular bumper, despite the low speed.

My point is, when you are at fault for the accident the damage you are doing to someone else and their property is much more extensive.

I doubt the TOTAL for repairing both vehicles was more. If he did have the bumper I showed, his truck likely did not need any repair.

Also, there is a safety factor involved. The bumper I showed will not override a car's back bumper and get into the vehicle with you.

My liability insurance is higher than my wife's because my vehicle weighs around 7,000 lbs. rolling and hers weighs around 4 K.

Weight means more PE and KE and therefore more damage. E=MV^2

Kind of like why a 10mm is better than a .357 or a 9mm.
