Force appears to be part of the equation. When the mag is inserted gently, it didn't do it. When it was inserted vigorously, it did.

My heavily used Kimber 1911's do it too - and I like it. It saves one manual step and a fraction of a second during a reload.

Just discovered this feature this weekend when a buddy told me about it. Tried it with a Brand new .45 M&P compact, it does it.
He said he read that pretty much all semi-auto's do it, so pulled out the ruger, and it did it as well.
We collectively decided it was "pretty cool".

Also, it only happens when the mag is slammed in. With normal insertion, the slide stay's back.
One thing i noticed with the ruger is that it would only chamber a round if I had 15-17 rounds in the mag. When I only had 14 or less, the slide would battery, but wouldn't chamber a round. But with 15 rounds and up in the mag, it would chamber everytime.

One thing to watch out for with this little feature is seating the mag TOO vigorously. The slide has dropped a little early on mine (twice in 1,000 rounds) and caught the first round before the mag was completely seated, causing what I can only call a partial feed where the slide is against the side of the case instead of against the base. This has only happened during competitions where I was really rushing the mag change and slammed the fresh mag too hard.
Hope that makes sense.

Many will do it, but some require a lot more force than others. I can consistently get my M&P to do it every time without really slamming the magazine in all that hard. My Glock 19 requires MUCH more force to make it do it. Much more than I would typically use during a reload.

Take it to Roger and have either him, Mike, or Katy run some ammo through it. They will tell you what to do from there.

little training to get off of it. I have to move my thumb away from the slide a little but and it works just fine. I'll have a range report tomorrow after the Saturday WHIDPA match.
I've had this problem with my standard size M&P in 9mm and determined that it was in fact my grip. I was using the small size backstrap. I installed the large size, and while shooting an IDPA match last night, the "problem" magically disappeared. I did not change my grip at all.

I posted it earlier but I think some of you may have missed it. The problem was my grip not the pistol.
