M1 carbine is great. The .30 carbine round has ballistics about like a 357. Two cautions: Get a real original M1 carbine, not a copy. Copies can have quality issues. Second unless you can get original 30 round mags, stick to 15 round mags. Aftermarket 30 round mags often have issues too.

Levergun has its' place I think. Not fast shooting or fast loading. But they are well balanced and relatively lightweight. No magazines sticking out for inside-vehicle grabs.
There's also the whole. "EBR: Lawyers out to get you" theory which I don't personally subscribe to and doubt there's any evidence to back up out there, but I do know a few wise people who do. Something to consider.
