That's fine, and you are perfectly within your rights to do so.

However I am perfectly within my rights not not have to pay people just to have "peace of mind". As long as I research it and feel comfortable when I submit the paperwork, I will have "peace of mind" for free. After all, "peace of mind" is what you feel/believe, not what someone else tells you to feel/believe.

Very valid points, Thomas- I'm just the type that wouldn't be comfortable after submitting the legal stuff myself, even though I'm a smart enough guy and would probably be just fine doing it myself. I love DIY projects- remodeling my house myself is relaxing, fun, and cost effective, but there are some things I'm not good at or familiar with that I prefer to have someone else do for me. It's like replacing the cooling system on my car- I could've done it myself, but it would have taken me all weekend and I probably would have been grumpy and irritable while doing it, so I paid a professional to do the job in less than half a day. Now, if anything goes wrong, I take it back to him and have him fix it. If I had done it myself, I'd constantly be wondering if I put it all back together correctly, even though I'm a competant guy and probably would have been fine.

That's the peace of mind I'm talking about....and knowing that the ATF or any other agency is not going to come after me for a mistake that I made is worth a little extra $$ to me. I wish I could just do it on my own and forget about it, but I can't. Such is life. Sounds like you'll enjoy the research though, and I hope to get a report on how easy it was when you're done...and also any pointers on what to watch out for. That report just might persuade me to do it myself too.

Good idea, but don't hold your breath. It will be mid next year by the time I can spend the money and time on it.

I look at it from a different viewpoint. It isn't just about "piece of mind" for me, it is using an attorney means there is malpractice insurance. If the trust is messed up and challenged by the ATF as being invalid, I'll hold the attorney's feet to the fire to clean up their own mess.

sean cody just did mine.i went with a lawyer for reasons ive seen some that are suspicious at best.
