How about this on a neon label about twice the size of a business card?
This "Pursuant to Section 30.06..." sign means law abiding citizens who
- have no felony convictions EVER
- have no Class A or B misdemeanors in the last 5 years
- have passed State and Federal background checks
- have no history of chemical dependency or mental illness
- have been trained and tested in handgun proficiency and safety
...are NOT allowed to have a self-defense handgun on these premises.
Unfortunately, this sign means NOTHING to gun-toting criminals.
So, does this sign make you feel safer or would you rather take your business elsewhere?

I like this one. My approach is often too confrontational.
On the last sentence, I would probably say:
Your sign effectively ensures that the only guns that show up on your premise are from the CRIMINALS!!!

My thought is to address the general public or the customers. And to let them know what the sign does. I'm thinking the manager/owner of the establishment will pay attention more if we are addressing their customers.

When you all pass out the cards, what do you do with your receipts after you've taken your money to the anti gun business's competition?
Armed citizens in AZ copy their receipts and send them along to the anti gun businesses. This combined with the cards that they pass out show the businesses just how much money they're really losing over their anti gun policies.
BTW: their cards read something to the effect of, "If my handgun isn't welcome here, then neither is my money." Something like that, anyway.

I did that when I bought the car that replaced the KIA that I would have bought, so far my letter has been ignored.

I like some of the ideas that have been posted and have printed them out. I will pass them out to some of my CHL friends. I will let everybody know what kind of ideas I come across. 30.06 signs are rare in this town but you never know when you might cross paths with 1 and it would be nice to let business owners know the consequences of such signs.
