I used to shoot a lot with a .357 revolver. I never, ever had a misfire, FTF, FTE - nothing - it just always worked. No telling how many thousands of rounds I shot. Dirt simple. Load it - pull the trigger - BANG!
I've been shooting a semi-auto a lot lately and they have a lot of pluses. They must have, or there wouldn't be so many of them in use. But they are also more complicated and more chances for something to go wrong.
If I had to have just one pistol - my choice today would be a Ruger or S&W revolver. To me the reliability would out weigh the extra capacity, concealibility, etc.

If I had to buy a pistol, having none, I would buy the Sig 226 Navy I bought years ago. If it is good enough for SEALS and SAS, it is good enough for me!
If I were to buy one more pistol to add to what I already have (226 Navy, GP100, P7M8, Ruger rimfires) I would buy an HK45. I bought a Cali legal HK45C but sold it when I made the decision to move to Texas, so as not to take it out of Cali. That is the first thing I will buy when I get there.

Well this question brings out the dreamer/collector in me. So with that said and knowing I already have several great shooters both semi-auto and a revolver I would have to say I would go for a Beretta Billenium or a Colt Python, both of which are hard to find and out of my reach financially right now. Great to dream though.

Gee, which pistol would I buy? I guess I would have to go with a big bore magnum 44+ or an extremely light and tiny gun like a kel tec p32. I have all the other ends of the spectrum except a tiny gun and a hog leg. If you are asking what one gun I own that I would take with me anywhere it would be my 10mm Glock 20. If it were a handgun that I didn't own but wanted it to go anywhere it would be a Glock 29 10mm. For capacity, size, reliability, power, cost of gun etc. it is going to be hard to beat a Glock 29, only down side is cost of ammo. A truly versatile power package IMO.
Iunnrais called it as far as I am concerned. Glock 29 with the option to carry a Glock 20 mag and extended barrel if need be. Serious power in a small package!
Edit: That's just me. If you want something that doesn't cost you an arm and a leg to shoot then stick with a 9mm.

Sig P226 9mm
That was my first pistol. It was either that or the Beretta 92FS. I didn't like the way the 92FS fit in my hand. The Sig P226 was good, but then I saw the Sig P226 E2 and liked the grip even better (and the trigger).

Sig P226 with the E2 grips and SRT (Short Reset Trigger)...unfortunately, there is that whole out-of-my-price-range thing to deal with at the present...

You are a good man...to leave that HK behind just because its on the list and legal to sell there...having spent 10 years of my AF career in Norcal, I understand the importance of that action.

My understanding is that as long as the mags are 10 rounds or less and the barrel isn't threaded (not entirely sure on that one), you can still bring it with you to CA.

as for selling a pistol ....ive made 3 transactions on
http://texasguntrader.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; without a hitch . i made two sales and a trade , the website has a some info on selling along with a printable bill of sale you and the buyer can fill out . i got lots of hits on my listings ...made me feel like i was asking too little
that and gunbroker.com but i believe you need to ship through ffl's
or if your selling a really really cool pistol , you could list it on here

Good choice. My friends father carries a 19 and loves it. Just enough to where you can get a good grip on it but still small enough to conceal in the right holster.

I went with a Beratta 96 Inox. Picked it up for $375 at a pawnshop in Burleson over the weekend. Can't wait to shoot it.
(sorry for the camera phone pic)

I would buy a 1911. If I am truly limited to one pistol I'd want one with universally available ammo, and parts availability for JMB's pistol is almost endless.
