...dead weight is harder to handle than someone resisting...I have taught that if a situation like the OP occurred, the safest thing for the hostage would be for them to just faint...totally slump and drop...both giving the responder something for a target and distracting the brave BG who'd been hiding behind a human shield...will it work "100%" of the time? of course not...but it's a better option than the hostage's struggling to get away...
