Exactly my thoughts. If they are sound internally I want one. I can always have it refinished. I guess we'll know in a few days when they get here from Beaumont.

Same oppinion. Rough finish, both look & feel.
Not what I expected really.
Enjoyed our visit Stroo.

Hey LT, did they seem worn out or just bad finish?

Like I said, they were police guns, so most were carried a lot but fired very little.
Don't let the outside fool you.

LT - Enjoyed meeting you at the show also. It was nice putting faces with a few names. I thought the TSRA gun show was one of the better ones I have been to as well. Had plenty of guns but a nice variety of other related stuff as well.
update on 1911's in Sherman

OK,
I just spoke with a guy at Gander Mountain in Sherman:
Apparently the guns that they were sent showed up in much worse condition than what they expected. He told me that GM buyer bought a ton of them based on a sample sent buy the South Amercian distibutor. He said the real deal wasn't even close when they arrived. I was told that the Beumont store is the distribtion point for all of the Texas area stores and they sent out an email to all of the other locations that they would not be releasing any more until they figure out what to do. Basically, he explained that there were magazines missing for many of the guns, and that some came with mags that were for the wrong caliber.
This isn't the news that I wanted either, but it explains the previous post about them having guns that they would not release. They are up in arms because they don't want to sell junk, but don't want to get stuck with all of the guns either. He did say that they may decide to order new mags for the mismatched ones or discount the price accordingly. This person was by no means a decision maker however, and this may be pure speculation. At this point I am much less interested in following up with them, but I am sure that curiosity will get the best of me.

Looks like Sherman is the closest. 50 miles.
I don't know how far south you are in the DFW area but there is a Gander Mountain in Corsicana.
I would call first before making a useless trip.

My take was just poor finish. I only handled one. Tied so didnot rack the slide. Fit seemed good enough for the price except for the finish. The were nothing like the pics in the review I read.

Last night, I took it completely apart, down to disassembling the mag release and mainspring housing. I cleaned everything using Blue Wonder gun cleaner on steel wool. It cleaned up nicely.
I found no mechanical problems.
I am ordering a set of Wolff springs for it.
I saw one at Pasadena show today from same importer and in same general condition. They were asking $450.
My camera is going to have to be returned for repairs, so I'm considering buying an inexpensive replacement as a backup. I'll try to get some pictures posted.

Well, I think I'll be getting a couple next week.
A friend bought one and put two on layaway for me to pick up next time I get down that way.

I talked to the guy at GanderMtn, and he said the Sherman store doesn't even have any, they are at the distribution center, waiting for the company to figure out what to do with'em.
I'd call and check first, cause the guy I talked to said it'd be a week or two while they sort it all out.

I don't have a 'before' picture because my camera wasn't working.
I admit to spending several hours of scrubbing with oiled steel wool.
The first set is with the original grips.
And after swapping out the grips.
