(Help me decide) Taurus PT709 or S&W M&P Shield

I have not shot the Taurus, but my brother bought the Shield in 9mm a couple of weeks ago. We took it out to the range and I was extremely impressed. I loved it. It was more accurate than I expected, recoil was not bad, reliability was 100%, and the fit and finish was great. I would eagerly add one of these to my collection and in my opinion, it is worth the extra money. This is just a really well engineered piece of equipment from what I could tell.

I love my 709. I've had 1 ftf, and that seems to have been a primer issue as it would not fire in another gun also. I had an issue with the size of the gun until I added a Pierce extension to the mag. One of the first things I learned about the 709 was that they do not like +P ammo (to much charge for the short barrel?). That said, my next gun will be a M&P.

I'm not a Taurus "hater." I just think that A) this particular S&W is a better gun than this particular Taurus, and that B) S&W pistols in general are better pistols than Taurus pistols in general. That's all. That doesn't mean that I think Taurus is crap. I think that Ed Brown 1911s are better 1911s than my Kimber 1911. Doesn't mean that Kimbers are crap. It simply means that there is a hierarchy of quality in firearms, just like with anything else.
