The alleged retribution against a whistle blower was a bad idea.

The alleged retribution against the grand jury members who investigated the first allegation was a really bad idea.

The HPD unions led the charge against Pat and they unfortunately carry a lot of weight in the DA's race every election. They want the Harris County DA to accept any charges they present; the idea that the DA would look at it like a fair lawyer was detestable. For example. her policy is not to accept residue charges in drug cases. If an alleged crack pipe didn't have enough residue to be tested twice (once by the state and once by the defense) then she wouldn't take charges. That not only seems fair to me, it should be a constitutional requirement. With the history of the HPD crime lab, why on earth would anyone accept charges when the defense can't retest the residue? That lab not only was shown to do "shoddy" work, their employees lied in court by testifying about the results of tests that were never performed! The lab was shut down not once, but three times and under former Harris County DA Chuck Rosenthal, no one was ever prosecuted for perjury.

There are other reasons HPD unions doesn't like Pat and not one of them is valid. For example, the new post-conviction review dept was set up by Pat to look into questionable convictions. In just her short tenure, four people wrongfully convicted because of falsified or hidden evidence, or perjury where exonerated.

Remember, neither of the HPD unions have ever supported gun owners on one single bill. They sent representatives to oppose CHL session after session. Last session when it was reported that one HPD union supported campus-carry, the guy who allegedly made the statement quickly backed off and said that was just his personal opinion and not the union's position. Why the position of either HPD union would hold the slightest sway with anyone is beyond my comprehension.

After Chuck Rosenthal, the darling of HPD unions, Pat Lykos was a breath of fresh air. I don't know Anderson but I know this -- he was handpicked by HPD unions. Deja vu?

No, not at all. CHL has been far too successful since 1995 and it's no longer an issue. HPD and even their unions have not been a problem once CHL passed in 1995.

I don't know. Rosenthal hated the MPA, tried to kill it in the legislature and then tried to get Gov. Perry to veto HB1815 when it passed. Failing that, he started a false media campaign against the MPA that was picked up statewide. He even had the audacity to "instruct" all Harris County law enforcement agencies to continue to arrest people for UCW, if they had a handgun in a vehicle and didn't have a CHL. HPD announced that it would do as Rosenthal instructed.

I have no idea what Anderson's position will be on the MPA.

Boy, I'd love to get a read on him re: MPA/CHL/2A generally, whenever anyone has anything to offer. Perhaps it will only become clear in the fullness of time, after he's been in office for a bit next year.
