His relatives say he *never* wore a gun, and there was a big hullaballoo about there being one on the statue, so his hand covered it ... but IIRC, I saw him wearing one once in a western holster ... like they have at the Burnet Saloon Shootout show for the Steam train for visitors some weekends.... could have been a "dress gun" like for a parade, but my memory says I saw it once in the 1960s, and a horse, so I'm thinking parade.
