In Texas it is:lfinsr wrote:Not only is it a bad idea, but isn't that against the law with children in the house?
§ 46.13. MAKING A FIREARM ACCESSIBLE TO A CHILD.
(b) A person commits an offense if a child gains access to a
readily dischargeable firearm and the person with criminal
negligence:
(1) failed to secure the firearm; or
(2) left the firearm in a place to which the person

you mean to tell me this was the mom's idea???? O.M.G.
as much as I despise and I mean despise CPS I'd be tempted to threaten her with them. Tell her you're not undermining her parenting skills, you're trying to keep her and her kid alive. And that gun will "only be there when she's asleep" and when she's gone somewhere else she's not allowed to carry or when she's wearing something that doesn't working with the gun

I have a dog that could get that gun off the wall in 30 seconds if she thought it was food.
BAD IDEA!

Re: Opinions please.
Having it in plain site seems like something a child wants to play with. Why not spend a few bucks for a small safe?

so....so....Ok...now, I'm really confused....then where the heck is it going to be when she's not asleep?

(although, I will admit, my first thought was "thank G-d for that")

When I first looked at the picture, it looked like the toddler was throwing the gun. LOL
Re: Opinions please.
My opinion is it looks staged. Like that shotgun video on youtube.

She had her boy in the photo to show he couldn't reach it, so that part is staged.bizarrenormality wrote:My opinion is it looks staged. Like that shotgun video on youtube.

I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

Wait a minute. Hanging a pistol on a nail is parenting skill? No way.Carry-a-Kimber wrote:No, this is real. Sure, hanging that pistol on the wall is dangerous for the kid but it is even more dangerous for the Mom.
How certain is she that she will wake up in case some BG sneaks into her house while she is asleep? If a BG sees that pistol before she wakes up she is in for a rather nasty surprise if she wakes up. If she can see it, a BG can see it. Best to put in a safe that is close by but not obvious.
Re: Opinions please.
This looks to me like of of those times where someone knew there was a potentially dangerous situation and did nothing. Then we look back and say why the heck didn't someone do something?
If it were me I would give them the opportunity to correct the problem, maybe even offer to help with the purchase of a gun safe meant for the bedside. If they didn't comply I would report them and have a clear conscious do so. What this person is doing is illegal and it makes all responsible gun owners look bad. Who knows, it could possibly save a child's life.

My guns won't be illegal, they'll be undocumented.

I'm with you on this one. It would take a lot to get me to even consider talking to CPS, but this just might do it if there was nothing else I could do to change her mind.SewTexas wrote:Carry-a-Kimber wrote:No, this is real.
