Mixed Up Burgers in Grand Prairie was pretty good - have only been there once
I also like the burgers at The Ranch in Las Colinas, not specifically a burger place, but good burgers to be had.
And if I'm in the mood for a fast food burger I tend to swap between In-N-Out and Five Guys.

As much as I enjoyed the meet and greet the other Saturday in San Antonio, I was not impressed with 5 Guys, my first visit to one ever. Of course, I just came from California where everyone is ga-ga over In and Out Burgers, but I didn't particularly find them to be top notch burgers either. 5 Guys is vaguely similar in many ways. Decent maybe but not "the best."
Maybe I am an old purist but when you start throwing things between the buns that were never intended to be there, fiery peppers, weird cheeses, even pineapple, etc., it disqualifies those hapless burgers from the "best" competition.
For decades in San Diego, Boll Weevil had what I considered the best burgers, 1/2 pound, served bare, plain with a tray of fixin's, you could slather on as you saw fit, mustard, ketchup, mayo sauce, pickles, peppers, etc.
At my age and state of decrepitude, I shouldn't be worrying about such things anyway, and especially not eating them.

In San Antonio, the best burgers are at Chris Madrids...mmmm, the Macho with fries. Also, a proud shout out to Sam's Burger Joint under the I35 bridge off Broadway. Good music and great burgers.
Did I mention Chris Madrids?

JALLEN,
I am not all that impressed with 5 guys or In'nOut, at least they didn't live up to the hype I'd been given. I have no problem eating at either I see you are in Comal County. If you're near New Braunfels you might try TJ's on Loop 337. I have a couple near me I frequent. One in Deer Park, Char Burger and a place out by Ellington Field on Hwy 3: Burger House. Also, Burger-Tex which, I believe has a location in Austin. These are just plain old hamburger joints, nothing in the gourmet ranks. I tried a place called Moo-Ya and it was decent, too. I have given up on Whataburger with their thin patties, cold burgers and shoe string fries.
Here's Texas Monthly list of 50 top burgers. #7 on the Texas Montly list is Perini Ranch Steakhouse in Buffalo Gap, TX was listed in an AOL Top 10 Burgers today. On another note AOL listed #10 "burger" as an Ahi tuna steak burger on that same list

I forgot to add Tookie's in Seabrook which has reopened after IKE.

In Austin I have always like Top Notch. Under new owners but have the same work staff and burgers have not changed. A side of onion rings done in house it a welcome addition. They might have changed on paying, used to be just cash, so have it in hand.

I ate at a Five Guys in Northern Virginia a few years ago and it was very good. I ate at two different Five Guys in Texas within the past year and neither was anything special. Maybe it's like when Ninfa's expanded too fast.

That place definitely deserves a mention. Anyone that makes their curly fries on the spot is cool in my book. It's cool that a new location was made in the GP airport. It makes a different dining experience and they have discounts on bike night... now to get my bike a rollin'...
