Based on my formal training I do practice a tape loop but it sounds like that's not for everybody.

More importantly, I think it's important to rehearse what you're going to say after you shoot, if it comes to that. Not so much to 911 although that is important, but what are you going to say to the bystanders who think you shot somebody? We often talk about people being unaware of their surroundings, so there's a good chance if people are nearby the BOOM! of a gun is what bumps them out of their own little bubble. Imagine they look over and see you holding a gun and a man lying on the ground. If you're silent but deadly, what's the chance they think you're a good guy?

I was taught to raise my left hand as if showing to stop and yell "Stop, Don't Move, Your Scaring me!"

Everyone knows what the hand gesture means universally so if the perp had headphones or hearing issues there is no claim that you made no cammand to stop.

I was told under no circumstance to say anything along the lines of "I have a gun" "I will shoot/kill you" all of these remarks could be turned against you in court whereas the one I was taught shows you were in fear of your life.

Each situation is unique (i.e. facing multiple bad guys in a hallway inside your home vs. one bad guy in an open rural area and distance between you and him) If I felt the circumstance required me to draw, yet given the reasonable option, I would try to yell "drop the knife," or "show me your hands," etc. I don't necessarily practice a phrase though. Even then, that line is so narrow and muddy, I don't think you could anticipate what to do for any given situation. Bad guys tend to be unpredictable, illogical, and often make poor choices, so I would definitely err on the side of my own personal safety.

The most dangerous situation is when you are out at night, in really bad weather, or surrounded by a mob. Or, combination of the above.

1) Rule number One, never put yourself in a bad situation unless you are force to.

One CHL trainer I've read about practices saying, "Go away. I have nothing you want!" prior to drawing his weapon, but placing his gun-hand on the hip (weapon) to prepare to draw, if necessary, and holding out his non-gun hand out in a "stop" posture. This could be interpreted a few ways, including the lead I may be sending your way if you threaten me. While many here may feel saying anything before drawing a weapon is bad practice, keep a few things in mind. 1) It may alert bystanders to a threat instead of just hearing a "bang" and seeing you standing over a body. So, now you have witnesses that can defend you instead of people who just heard a shot. 2) Your verbal and body language may be enough to send the perp running.
While I will definitely defend me and mine, a life, anybody's life, is precious. Anything I can possibly do to minimize the threat I am willing to have as an option.

You only sing the first verse ... then you hum the rest.

I would suggest humming the 1812 Overture instead but then he might know when you're going to shoot.
